They haven't had a bad culture, just poor coaching/leadership which lead to mass exodus. It also doesn't help when you have a generation of youth that doesn't want to put in the work it takes to be successful. They had enough talent the last few years, especially the year before last, that they should have won a lot more games than they did. I guess we will see if this new coach can get them to buy into his program and become good teammates , because a good teammate will play any position the coach needs him to play, not just the one he wants to play. They have a pretty good young group and could have a decent senior class (if they come back), lets just hope this coach uses the talent that he has more efficiently.

thats literally the definition of a bad culture

Matt Jones is as good as they come

Couldn't tell you a thing about Matt Jones, he was there before any of my boys were in HS, as far as King, he may have new the game, but to say he was a good coach is a very big stretch !!!!! He had more talent during his time than anyone would need to be successful and he got nothing out of it. I am not saying anything about him personally because I do not know him, he may be a very good man , but he was not a very good coach.

They had Matt Jones and Eric Hatley at the same time and the parents were calling for their heads.  Matt Jones won everywhere he coached minus EHHS and Eric Hatley has made the TSSAA State Playoffs every single year that he’s coached at Cheatham County as the head coach.  Frankie King is a very bright offensive minded football coach who is now an Offensive Coordinator at a 6A level program.  Brian Pence won a state championship as an assistant coach at Independence before he came to EHHS.

All of them were “poor leaders” or “created a culture of losing” according to experts on CoachT.  That’s comical!

A poor coach can make you lose a handful of games each season but this program has won 6 games in the previous 5 seasons. There are moms in Hickman County who could top that with a handful of talented kids in 2A football.

Typical message board poster who thinks they can do better.

6 wins is good though. Beats the number of teeth those Hickman Co moms have

    • Yes. I have seen that cause problems. In my last coaching stop, if a coach resigned they got them into another building. Sometimes the very next day. Welcome.
    • Agree. The man literally sacrificed time, moments, memories you can't get back with his own family for every single athlete at that school. (and many others) To those that continue to be negative about him and continue to bring him up; He's been loyal, hardworking and just his entire coaching career. Ask anyone that actually has a leg to stand on in regard to Coach.
    • Egotistical? That's a new one.  It's funny, I'm friends with two of the younger coaches that he "ran off" as you say. In fact, he helped them find jobs, encouraged them to do what was best for their growing families, provided advice, support and still does to this day.

    • Track has always been big at OR. Ran off about 7 straight titles in the 60s. Your hate for Gaddis runs deep, huh? What did he ever do to you, to make you disdain him that much? You can’t seem to stop talking about the guy. He’s living rent free in your head. Might wanna get that checked out, you don’t wanna go to the grave with that on your heart.
