First Poll versus Final Poll

Afternoon everybody. I always look at this at the end of the year to see how it went, and how we did. I'm pleased.

I only want to say two or three things, at least one of which will probably result in my screen name being twisted around and my voters insulted again, but here are my thoughts.

In the first poll, the only two teams who weren't there at the end were Brentwood and Beech. The Bruins were a returning state placer team and had just won the Ooltewah tournament, so they were a good bet that first week.

There was a good bit of parity in midstate, and Centennial peaked at the right time.  They received votes at the beginning as well. I watched them a good bit last weekend and was incredibly impressed with them. Their kids wrestled hard, never gave up, and never quit trying to win.  It also looked to me like they were a very close knit bunch of kids who were wrestling for each other. That's hard to beat. Coach Pelkey did a great job with them.

Beech battled injury issues and the loss of two state champions, but in spite of a tighter pack in their region, Coach Roberts got his guys into the duals once again. I think at the end they just couldn't stay healthy enough to go deep in the duals.

As for the final poll, ten of the twelve who were there at the beginning were there at the end. Coach Foreman and and his crew at Pigeon Forge should be recognized for their state title. He's about to have a really good team in a few years.

And more than one coach last weekend told me that Oakland was very solid; several people expected them to be there.

So there you have it.

I want to thank my voters as well. Doing this is extra work for them and I enjoy talking to them every week.

Thanks Coach, We really do have a super close group of guys and they wrestle very hard for each other. We do a ton of stuff together off the mat to help build that culture.  They have also worked extremely hard to help get us to where we were this year.  We had to wrestle a perfect match to beat Science Hill as they are a great team and have a ton of studs and great wrestlers.

Best of Luck to everyone this weekend.

    • Yep..could possibly have 3 teams ranked in top ten in the same four team district.
    • He had an opportunity to be the OC at TC without final say in the offensive gameplan. How does that work? Smh. Head Coaches are public figures regardless of the community size, and yes there are some out there, it’s irrelevant and not fair to them to name them on here. Also why is said “head coach” the head coach of the MS baseball program to begin with? Oh because no one wants it. As for the Lebanon question, I know what I’ve been told so just going off here say, some of the boosters were not happy with his roster decisions and wanted him out. Although he lead them to 20+ wins in multiple seasons
    • A head coach in the school system? No I dont think so. Head coaches are public figures in small communities. Not trying to slander, but this is an actual question. Do you know why he was forced to resign at Lebanon? This was his second chance.  He already left trousdale once and had an opportunity to come back a couple of years ago but spoiled that.
    • Are you perfect? Nope no one is, at the end of the day there are several teachers/coaches and even some in the Trousdale County school system that have DUI’s on their record. You’re correct on it being a bad mistake and it unfortunately could have ended horribly. While you consider the consequences minimal, I can assure you they are not. Ultimately I hope and have faith that he will learn from it and use it to better himself.
