Here is something that could bee done. I know all AAA coaches are not happy with the condition of the regions. After some research, looking at a state map, and using common sense here is what the regions could look like.

My thought behind how I split it up:

There are 93 teams in AAA across the state, and geographically they may be split evenly between the state, but not by numbers. 8 teams in region 4, but 17 in region 7?? At the min. split the regions evenly. At 93 teams that would mean 5 regions would have 12 and 3 would have 11. It wouldn't be that hard to split up differently for individuals. If split evenly and then also paying attention to geographic location second the regions would look like (underlined schools would be added teams or moved teams.

Breaking it up like this would make some good match ups. State has lost its lust. Kids say oh yea I made it to state no big deal. Let's make state something that has to be worked for to obtain. Making it to state is like putting you passed kindergarten on your resume. Just think, when AAA and A/AA were combined there were 149ish team in the running for the state tournament across the state. Basically 1 in every 5 kids made it. So, then take out the 55 A/AA teams, now you are at 94 teams/kids, competing for the same 32 spots. Now, 1 in every 3 kids are now competing for that spot. There is your water down. I am not saying combine the divisions again because I think different divisions is what will grow the sport. However, adding in sub state, and making it a 16 man bracket at state will make it so 1 in every 6 kids make it to state. Same amount of "trophies" given, but now it will make the wrestlers fight for something. I can guarantee the consolation-semi matches at sub state will be something great matches!

Super happy to see that Region 8 had ten placers to go along with 2 state champs.  I think it was in '14 they had zero placers and in '15 that they had one.  So they are trending up!  Hopefully that will continue in the coming years.  Certainly Collierville is on the upswing so that bodes well for the region.  Would like to see Bartlett and Houston step up as well.

In small school, we had to drive 3.5 hours to go to regional tournament. All but four teams are in Nashville. Most years if a Memphis team (small school) wants attempt to qualify for state we have to drive 2 hours to qualify for region duals, then 3 to go to state duals, then the next weekend (most years) drive back to Nashville, then if we have any qualify go back to Franklin. Do we have funding for all these trips? Most of the time we do not, but we pick and choose and some years if we are good we drive down and take a chance.

I understand the reasoning behind small school. I'm not saying I agree with it all the time. To me its almost like saying you don't have a chance at medaling In the large school division so we'll make our own special division just for you, a participation trophy and I think its taken away great matchups I would've loved to have seen. Like PF battling it out with Centennial in the blood rounds at state duals would've been awesome. I get it will never happen but I just haven't been a fan of the a-aa since the introduction of it.

But this is a big issue.

I get it will never happen but I just haven't been a fan of the a-aa since the introduction of it.

But this is a big issue.

I was not a big fan of the split as I wrestled in the public and private split. Small school makes less sense since there is less money there. I went to a school of 2,000+ and now teach at a school of 400. The budget is way different in both schools and so are the resources. A chance of getting a metal is a mute point when you have half of the kids to choose from and half of the kids in a practice room. Best of the best duals will show that the state champions in small school are just as good. My freshman year if we did the split, 4 of the medalist would have been from small school. I also beat a couple of state medalist in private school and I only placed once. It is giving schools with less a chance to grow a program. Since we added the small school division, there has been more schools that added. Public schools will not add programs if the interest is down which occurs when losing happens all the time. My next point is this, why would big schools complain when they travel to go to tournaments. I do not travel anywhere to go to regionals. Is that fair? I do not know, but it is what I have to do. Just like when the TSSAA thought of the split to help grow the sport, it added more schools. Does it water down state? Sure, but Best of the Best will take care of that. The split in duals happened way before the split in individual state. Trust me, placing state in small school is not easy.
