Now that the state tournament is over what are the best national tournaments for both Boys and Girls?

If you are talking about post season from now to the start of next season here is my list

 1. Fargo - nothing but nothing compares to Fargo.. the exposure and what it means is huge.  Kid AA at Fargo it’s automatic high level D1 offers

2. Super32 - by far the biggest Folkstyle tourney there is there is nothing even close. AA here and it’s automatic D1 offerss

3. UWW 15U world Team trials in Omaha, Cadets 17U world team trials in Akron, and Junior Nationals in Vegas. Yes, UWW added 15U this year for worlds.   These are 3 different tourney but it’s just 3 different ages for chance to get on USA World team.  These brackets are generally small but it’s the best of the best.  It’s a chance to get on world team so placing here is legit and you are on the national latter.

4. Flo nationals - flo moved Flo Nationals back a month so it doesn’t compete with NHSCA anymore and they switch it to free/Greco and now it’s a seeding for Fargo and world team trials.  It’s going to be HUGE this year.  Every national kid I know is going to flonationals this year.  With Flo behind it I think it will pass NHSCA this year in importance.  And exposure kids will get this year at flo nationals will be huge

5. NHSCA - somehow they have faught off the competition from Folk Nationals and Flo Nationals and have gotten stronger every year.  The exposure that kids got last year at NHSCA was huge.  Placing at NHSCA means something especially to D1 coaches.

That’s the big 5.   I would recommend all kids who are serious about wrestling in college compete in all 5.

Secondary Tourneys

1. Preseason Nationals and post season Folk Nationals are legit tourneys and while you get good exposure at both it’s not like one of big 5. AA here isn’t going to get offers it will help build a resume but not great as a stand alone

2. Journeyman - another solid tourney especially if you can get in the A tourney.  Again like preseason - a good resume builder and great wrestling experience but that’s it

3. USA regionals - huge for developing wrestling skill in free/Greco and getting exposure but there so many that being an  AA or even winning just pads your resume and that’s it.  I highly recommend going to as many as possible but great experience

4. Michigan Grappler - tough as nails tourney - Palmer won it this year and it put him on the national map.  It’s a solid resume build that will get you exposure

5. Nhsca Duals - always competes with SE regionals but if you only doing Folk(I don’t recommend this at all) this is best Folk dual tourney in offseason. Great experience and tough competition if you can get on a good team

6. Disney Duals - great experience and it’s a super fun trip. It’s Disney so it really fun trip.  Competition has fallen off the past 2 years there is really no exposure for competing here

that’s pretty much it for big stuff..  I’m probably missing stuff and if I think about it I’ll add them

Oh and the USA duals, schoolboy, cadets, and juniors.   I recommend the schoolboy but skip the cadets and especially the junior duals.  Way to expensive, competition is weak and getting weaker every year plus the format is just to much and to many kids get hurt .  Absolutely no exposure at all from cadet and junior duals.  Just not worth it at all.

Very nice list Durdon. Thank you for taking the time to put this together.

    • He resigned smh, and have you ever heard of charged but not convicted. Some people in this county baffle me with their need to slander others. Have you asked any of the 30+ parents that signed a petition to get him reinstated at the board meeting this week how they feel about this? Just let it play out, at the end of the day the only people that will bring TC back are the ones that know what its about at its core.    People hate losing and they aren't used to it at TC. I for 1, and I'm sure others too, understand having a dip in talent and not being able to compete for a state title every year. But in the past, TC teams have outworked more talented teams, they didn't continuously lose the turnover battle, they didn't commit 8+ penalties in several games each season, and I believe several of the folks in town that want Blake out feel as if he is neglecting the history of the program. This is from a source that used to be extremely close to the program (not me lol), Blake gets out of school midday and the players show up and there is no practice plan or itinerary.  I also understand those that are on team Blake, when he has loads of talent, he wins. He does know football and he is a tremendous DC, and if the rumors are true then he will do great things. As for the board member issue, it is what it is, everyone that's true to the county know that and nothing has changed. I agree though that they should strive to make the facilities as good as we can. And as far as potential candidates, I agree there is very few options. West, Vetetoe (yes I know), and couple others that could have some interest. Whatever happens is massive for the program during a pivotal time before the next big wave of stars make their way through.
    • McKenzie had no trouble with Huntingdon.
    • Has BA landed any cornfed cowboys to block up front?
    • Yea I agree I will say tho I was a big “ v “ fan if an  opening ever did happen I think it would’ve been good to see him have a shot coming from a power house like Oakland. I’m sure he’s learned a lot from Kevin.  I bet he would bring a really good offense scheme IMO But after all this I just dunno anymore.  Whatever happens with the rumors an such if it did come to and opening I think this messes it all up.  The board members dreams are slowly slipping away now. I haven’t lived there for awhile I just hear what I hear, but my question is would there be any good potential candidates?? That’s why I don’t understand why people want b s out so bad who else could do any better ?? IMO there’s nothing attractive about it? As I stated earlier I went to the last game last year and taking a leak in a porta Potty is pretty sad and still nothing being done they say ..
    • I have a sophomore that can do 177 (preferred) or 192. Sent you an email.
