Dekalb's record is deceiving as their losses have all come to very good teams and they have knocked off some very good teams, do not know much about the teams McMinn Central is playing so I really am unsure how to judge. If they keep their nerves, I think they will do well.

I would say the same about Central, although we have had some bad losses, such as York and Bledsoe.  I guarantee they are a different team now than those losses.  I do understand what you are saying, but I think at this point all of that is out the window.  It is about match ups.  You can look at records all day, but at the end of it match ups cannot be determined until the game begins.

Central has lost their sectional game at home the last two years with better teams than they have this year, but they lost both those games to pretty good Macon Co. teams.  This years team has played up and down a lot and you didn't know which team would show up on any given night, but they're a scrappy bunch who play with passion.  No superstars, but good balanced scoring which in my opinion makes them hard to defend.   I think the Chargerettes are hungry and want to make it back to the 'boro. If they play like they have the last two games, they have a good chance to advance.

I saw Mcminn Central over the Christmas break.... definitely didn't expect that team to be hosting a sub-state game....

I would say many would say they did not see Dekalb playing in a substate game either.

Truth is, it took the Chargerettes a while to find themselves.  They were set to start the season with 4 seniors.  Unfortunately when one of them went down she was a tough one to replace.  A sophmore and freshman have stepped up a filled the role very well, but I feel if we had that senior, this team would be a lot stronger.  Depth would be there.  It is what it is though.

Dekalb County probably has taken the toughest route to this sectional.  Wins over 2 of top 5 AA teams (IMO) to make it to the finals of the Region.  They may be a year away from being great but this is still a very tough team.  Ferrel is amazing.  I haven't seen McMinn Central play but to beat Meigs they must be good.

How good does the Coach @ McMinn Central scout opposing teams or does he just rely on what his team does?

He's more than likely already gotten video of Dekalb, but he's going to play man-to-man regardless. He'll use the video to see what defense Dekalb plays and to determine whether he needs to double down on the post, which perimeter players are outside threats, etc.

They split with Meigs in their four games this season. Meigs melted down in the first meeting back in December turning the ball over 20 times in the second half and blowing a 15 point lead to lose by 1 at Central. Central melted down in the second half of a what was a close game at the half at Meigs in their second regular season meeting turning it over multiple times and losing by 20 in Decatur. In the district championship, Meigs led 14-3 after the first quarter. Central tied it at 24 at the half. They led 36-31 with around 3 minutes left in the game when Meigs closed out the game on a 12-2 run to win 43-38. In the region championship, Central scored the first 9 points of the game, but Meigs rallied to cut it to a 14-8 Central lead after the first quarter. Central led 29-14 at the midway point of the second quarter and settled for a 33-22 halftime lead. The lead was still 9 at 44-35 through three quarters, but Meigs dominated the fourth quarter and took their first lead at 50-48 (15-4 run to start the fourth quarter). Central had to really rally to force overtime. Freshman Kellan Baker scored 4 of Central's 6 points in overtime to help them win the game.

Like someone said earlier in the thread, it's all about matchups and the ability or knowledge of how to exploit any mismatches at this point in the season.

    • Agree. The man literally sacrificed time, moments, memories you can't get back with his own family for every single athlete at that school. (and many others) To those that continue to be negative about him and continue to bring him up; He's been loyal, hardworking and just his entire coaching career. Ask anyone that actually has a leg to stand on in regard to Coach.
    • Egotistical? That's a new one.  It's funny, I'm friends with two of the younger coaches that he "ran off" as you say. In fact, he helped them find jobs, encouraged them to do what was best for their growing families, provided advice, support and still does to this day.

    • Track has always been big at OR. Ran off about 7 straight titles in the 60s. Your hate for Gaddis runs deep, huh? What did he ever do to you, to make you disdain him that much? You can’t seem to stop talking about the guy. He’s living rent free in your head. Might wanna get that checked out, you don’t wanna go to the grave with that on your heart.
    • This late in the year, you’d have to think they’d go with an Asst. on staff, right? I’m pretty new to the area so still learning how folks do things around here…if Woods stays there to teach, it could be hard on a new guy/staff coming in…
