Haha not sure Oakland would prefer that , but I’m sure they certainly won’t back down. Would love to watch this Oakland team with their Star from last year Keishawn Davidson. Believe he transferred to prep school. (But Memphis is challenged with that annually.)

I'd rather go down against the best. Nobody is going to remember how you did unless you win state. Big chunk of this team will be back next season, assuming Anderson or McDonald dont decide to just focus on football

DB may have come up short vs. Bearden, but the Dawgs knew the Tribe were in the house.  What a game.  The Bearden students are fantastic.  DB actually led 30-29 midway through the fourth and Bearden finally woke up scoring 7 points in a matter of seconds to go up 36-30 to provide the breathing room the boys from Knoxville needed.

Absolutely loved the game and coach Poore's strategy of slowing the game down and playing stall ball almost worked to perfection.  Good luck to the Dawgs moving forward and look forward to coming back this fall for football.  :)

The stall ball strategy is exactly why a shot clock is needed in high school basketball.  It was kind of ridiculous.

Why?  Because a team did what they needed to do to stay in a game.  A good coach puts his team in a position to win, if you cant' run with Bearden why try? Not many teams can match the Bulldogs basket for basket.

This has been discussed here over the years.

There is no room in HS basketball for a shot clock. If your team can't guard another team well enough to make them turn it over or get a violation then that's your problem. You shouldn't get bailed out after :40 of defense.

Exactly.  What he said.  I made the drive down last night expecting to get blown out of the gym, but Poore went with the strategy he thought could win him the game and almost did.  It's not the tempo DB is used to playing by a long shot, but they made it work to near perfection last night.

I've never liked watching a slow down game but if you're a smart coach you go with what gives you the best chance to win. Poore is a very good coach and in a few more years he won't have to use a slow down game to stay with teams like Bearden. Heck that last so-called coach at DB probably would of forfeited the game. I don't think it was in his contract to play past the regular season.

You sound silly, Grew up in Memphis live in NY now where they have a 35 second shot clock and the games are good quality (TN has better talent). You can slow the game down without holding it for 3 minutes, that’s not some amazing strategy. That’s cowardice man, if you can’t find a way to score or even get up a shot you shouldn’t be able to hold it because you’re inept at offense.

If if if. Oakland's best player transferred to a prep school before the season, yet they still found a way to get to this point. You want your district to get respect? Then you have to win in March

Agreed. I don’t Side with Bearettes. With and without him on the court, Oakland dictated everything. Tempo, where shots were taken (for the most part, who took the shot). A four-point play and two turnovers by Oakland in the last 3 minutes allowed EH an opportunity. Not discrediting EH. After all, shear determination almost prevailed.

What is the purpose of the shot clock?

The flip side could be argued as well. You shouldn't have an artificial aid (shot clock) because you are inept at sound defense.

I watched a game last night where the team that held the ball to their detriment. The other team played sound defense, caused turnovers, and scored when given the chance.

You guys are saying artificial aid like the shot clock isn’t used on all levels. You can slow the game down and make every possession count with a 35 or 40 second clock I’ve seen it happen as have many others. Telling kids to hold the ball at half court isn’t some amazing strategy play basketball.
