Going to be an awkward bus ride and game come Sept 13 in Benton for Davis. I'm going to imagine you could cut the tension with a knife. Field named after Derrick's dad now he's coaching a rival. I'm guessing a sell out that Friday night.

And I can almost promise there will be people on Central's side pulling for y'all and Davis. The way our school system is run is sorry. I for one and this is a former player for DD I hope y'all beat the brakes off of Polk. Personally been looking to get my kids into a different school system. Nothing with the teachers they do a great job with what little they have. Anyways great hire for Central and DD will turn that program around I strongly believe that.

Excellent choice to re-build this program. DD is a great man and a fine coach. Glad he gets to bring in his own staff too because lets face it they need a fresh start cause 1-29 ain't getting it done. Doesn't need that kind of negative energy hanging around!

This has been a big hit to my love for high school football. I wish the best for Coach Davis for all he did for Polk but I can’t cheer for MC. I am confused about how he is bringing in his own staff. I think most of the coaches on his staff at Polk, besides his dad, are still at Polk or are out of coaching. Correct me if I’m wrong.

Who is he bringing in that wasn’t already at MC?

I think it is not so much disappointed with coach Davis, more disappointed Coach Vestal didn't get it. I sure hope folks will understand what a great hire this is and encourage kids to give him a chance. He met with the Central kids this morning and I heard a large turnout showed up. Several of the kids were seen talking up Coach Davis. I heard Coach Davis say he was going to reach out to Coach Vestal and see if he wanted to stay, if he doesn't.... it will be his choice to walk away.

Sometimes cleaning house is to clean out the entire pantry, not just the front shelf.

Right now counting his Dad, there are about 5 of his volunteer coaches saying they will help. No school staff coaches coming from PCHS.

McMinn County game will be played @ Central this season! Looking forward to finally hosting that game again!

Coaching Staff Info:

Derrick Davis (HC and DC)

Larry Davis (OC)

Brent Masingale

Steven Stone

Kim Gossett

Bob Lambert

Dylan Lawson

*Will post more when I find out. Thanks!

Also, a lot of misinformation out there. Vestal chose to leave because he wanted to call the plays. Davis wanted him here. Overheard people saying he was ran off by administration or by Davis and that is simply not true.

Heard Burt Jenkins will be on the staff as well.

I don’t think people realize that Derrick only had two paid assistants at Polk Co. It’s a wonder he was able to do as well as he did. So yes, you are correct, no staff coaches are coming from PCHS because the only teacher he had on his coaching staff was Rusty Brewer and he is now the HC at PCHS.

Two paid assistants? No wonder he left. I knew he didn’t have as many coaches on staff at PCHS, but that is really something else. I thought he had two assistants that worked at PCHS but I could be wrong.

Larry Davis (retired teacher) and  Rusty Brewer were the two. All others were volunteers and had work or school outside of the county. It would really help Coach Brewer if the county stepped up and hired some teachers that could coach but that isn’t going to happen.

    • I think the OC is a guy the he brought from Fulton with him. I am not sure though. I have heard a lot of conflicting information. It seems like a couple of coaches that he hired have since been let go.

    • If someone needed their grades pumped up surley it would have to be for someone needing it to get to another level. If your intending on going to work right after high school it wouldn't matter. Why would someone in their right mind think if they screwed it up in high school that their ready for college. It has to be for an athlete to get them over the fence to get in and from that point the school their going to will cheat them through the rest of the way for their athletic skills just like the rest.
    • The new school will be on that road behind Home Depot next to a church. I'm wondering if this could take from Greenback or could it be the end of Greenback, they only have 200 students.
    • Yeah it will take the county kids in that area that were going to lenior city. They will move down to 4a I think
