2019 Top Ten in 6A

Recommended Posts

Getting my thoughts together for the upcoming season on our preseason Top Ten and would like to get some insight from the "T"...

I'd expect the usual suspects, Maryville, Oakland, Whitehaven, Ravenwood, and Blackman to be strong again.

What about teams like Mt. Juliet, Riverdale, Germantown, Farragut, Hendersonville, and Cane Ridge to name a few.

Give me your top ten and potential sleepers for the upcoming 2019 season.

Maryville Sr. class is loaded! Oakland has to travel to Maryville in the playoffs this year.  Winner of that game wins state my 10 points.

IMHO Right now..

1.maryville

2. Oakland

3. Blackman

4. Mt Juliet

5.Whitehaven

6-10. No clear separation with several teams that could be 6-15

I'm anxious to see how the Rebels bounce back from that shutout....  Been many, many years since that last happened.

Not having Tee Hodge for that game was a huge factor.  Tee's back, with a lot of added muscle, Davis is a SEC caliber WR, Maples is 6-4 WR and  Brody at TE to take advantage of any double coverage.  Ethan E. and Mason on D and Luke Walker is playing this year as well. Remember they beat that same Oakland team earlier in the year when Tee was playing.

The playoff score was a surprise, but I will be shocked if the Rebs aren't in the semis this year. I think they beat every 6A team on their schedule by double digits until they play Oakland in the playoffs.

Y'all's tickets are 15 dollars?

Season tickets have gone up to $15.00 each this year. The general admission tickets are either $7 or $8. They pulled a fast one on us a few years back. We had six home games and they said season tickets had to go up because of the extra game. They were $10 each back then and they went from $50 to $60 for the extra game. The next season they kept them at $60 for only 5 games. ( $12 each) Then they went up to $65 for 5 games and this year $70 for 5 games. There are a lot of ticked of fans. These are the long haul fans that they are ticking off. I remember what a half empty stadium looks like when Cleveland was hanging half a hundred on them in the mid 90’s. All the transplants will be gone when their kids graduate. It the long time fans that are your base. I could go on.

That is outrageous. I think our season tickets were $35 the last time I purchased them. Maybe $40. It’s been a couple of years. Our general admissions tickets are only $6, which is why that $15 number jumped out at me so much.,

    • Lee would have been a good choice, also.  I'm sure Benny was involved with the decision.
    • Personally I was pulling for Lee Hammonds to get another shot. He’s earned it!
    • Tyler Williams was the logical choice to be named head football. He served as the Highlanders’ strength coach and offensive coordinator.
    • I went to practice yesterday and liked what I saw for the most part. Derek and crew have done a good job during the off-season. I was very impressed with the size of some of those boys on the offensive line. My only regret was one of the boys I was really pulling for to have a good year was dismissed from the team. I have to applaud the coaches for setting examples for the others, no one is bigger than the team. One other thing, I was hoping with that big rain we got this week some of that  yellow paint would dissolve but it didn't.
    • Couple of thoughts: 1.  I just don't understand all the intricacies in TSSAA transfer rules anymore.    William Blount had a kid that played the final part of the basketball season with them this year,  that played at Hardin Valley last year, and played football for Bearden this year.  I say that to say, I know the coaches and the AD and the Principal at WB and I will never believe they would do something they knew was wrong.  They are men of character.  I BELIEVE the same thing about the coaches and administration at Maryville.  Call me gullible, but these are men and women of integrity in my experiences with them. 2.  Much like the transfer of the Clemmer kid a couple of years ago, with Smith, the football team is getting a huge boost, but the impact on the basketball team will be just as great or maybe even greater.  With Smith playing post, it frees the Sigmund kid who will be coming back from injury, to play more with his face to the basket.  The Rebels basketball squad in my mind, will be "the program" in East Tennessee next year.
