Is this why Troy Bond left? Just curious...I don't know him or his situation that well but I know he pretty much started the program and had great success.

You can rest assured that Wilson Central has never had a coach like Steve Thompson who has taken seven (7) teams to the STATE TOURNAMENT.

Was a really good coach at one time but his day is past. I doubt very seriously he will ever coach again. I read something on his Facebook page that he has some kind of occasional irregular heart beat problem.

Troy Bond is one of the best coaches in Middle Tennessee. My guess is he knew his time at WC had run his course. Going to Oakland was the best possible move for him. He is a future HOF coach.

Please explain how a school is able to have five (5) consecutive losing seasons and the coach be considered a HOF coach?  Where I am from that coach would be lucky to find a job coaching in middle school.

I think Troy went to 2 state tournaments at WC and maybe 2 at Oakland...that's HOF territory in my book.

I have no idea who you are referring to here  but Troy Bond never had 5 consecutive losing seasons. Those were all after he left Wilson Central. Maybe you should have a little background knowledge before you speak.

My guess would be that Troy left because of the pay raise he got going to Rutherford Co., can't blame him.  Great coach, great guy, proving it again at Oakland.  He started the program at Central and took them to Murfreesboro 2 or 3 times (maybe 2 with 1 substate appearance). He is the real deal.  The big problem at Central is the apathy ( coaches and administration) at their largest feeder program, West Wilson Middle School.  The coach they have now and the one that preceeded him would not do the extra work required to be successful.    No open gyms in the summer, taking 3 weeks off in December for your 7-8th grade team, not taking advantage of the rules for practice in the summer.  Mt. Juliet people get it.  Great 6th grade program at MJMS with a guy who has been doing it for 10+ years who keeps 14-15 kids a year, open gyms all summer long, playing AAU all spring with incoming 5th graders.  Then you turn them over to Cheri Abner (not fair to have someone like her) for their 7-8th grade years and she is fantastic.  West Wilson has nothing like that going on,  new coach at Central is going to be lucky to  get 2-3 kids a year from one of the largest middle schools around.  This is going to be a tough job for anyone to turn around, and until it changes at the lower level I don't think it is going to get better.

just to let everyone know Troy was the coach from start of the school until 2013-ish, then we had the great Tyler Brown for 2 years "hate that we lost him" (don't really know how to type sarcasm), then Coach Carney who has left to take job at Mt. Pleasant.  Carney did a good job with the hand he was dealt.  Good kids, just not good basketball players.  Not their fault, just no development at the lower levels.  Even when Bond was there and had his good runs his best players came from Southside, which is K-8 and has maybe 60 8th graders a year compared to West Wilson which has 500+

Bond left the after the 2014-2015 season after having 3 freshman starters, all who had ridiculous parents who I believe all came from West Wilson.  I believe he had 4 State Tournaments appearances along with 5 sub-states. Now, 2 additional State Appearances at Oakland.

The new AD, David Jennings, I believe was an assistant at WC under Bond during many of those successful years. Problem is, I don’t think there is great interest in the job.

I would not hire any assts. etc.

Unfortunately, due to the lack of interest,  there won’t be a “great hire”

    • Agree. The man literally sacrificed time, moments, memories you can't get back with his own family for every single athlete at that school. (and many others) To those that continue to be negative about him and continue to bring him up; He's been loyal, hardworking and just his entire coaching career. Ask anyone that actually has a leg to stand on in regard to Coach.
    • Egotistical? That's a new one.  It's funny, I'm friends with two of the younger coaches that he "ran off" as you say. In fact, he helped them find jobs, encouraged them to do what was best for their growing families, provided advice, support and still does to this day.

    • Track has always been big at OR. Ran off about 7 straight titles in the 60s. Your hate for Gaddis runs deep, huh? What did he ever do to you, to make you disdain him that much? You can’t seem to stop talking about the guy. He’s living rent free in your head. Might wanna get that checked out, you don’t wanna go to the grave with that on your heart.
    • This late in the year, you’d have to think they’d go with an Asst. on staff, right? I’m pretty new to the area so still learning how folks do things around here…if Woods stays there to teach, it could be hard on a new guy/staff coming in…
