This change will surely hurt Upperman teams in the future.  Hopefully no more gifting of an entire team to Upperman in one summer!  But maybe not they should still be able to pick up a few players especially if they offer them starting positions like previously.

Wont hurt Upperman any. Not hard to start when your the better players, Gifting with open enrollment go where you like. I think people just realized that.  Not near the politics at UHS as Cookeville. To find better players for Cookeville basketball team one just needs to look in the halls. 2300 students what top 5 or at least top 10 largest schools in the state. Why doesn't Cookeville and UHS play in basketball?

Upperman is loaded and Inca well oiled program. Girls and boys teams have chances to make it to the Boro. The boys just got a 6'6 guard transfer. The Bees won't be going anywhere for quiet a while.

I know that Cookeville coaches tried to make that happen last year.  UHS didn’t want any part.

I understand what you are saying about the number of students.  I have made same argument before but to be honest there isn’t a lot of the better basketball players from middle school level that quit playing basketball when they get to HS.   Just because you are an athlete doesn’t mean you can play basketball.

What is happening is several of the better players are not staying in town.  Just like a couple years ago when most of the freshmen class went to UHS after playing for CHS all summer including camps and then going to UHS when they realized they weren’t going to start at CHS and were instant starters at UHS.  I am not saying they made a bad choice.  I am saying CHS needs keep the better players in town.

They're not necessary CHS players. My son went to Prescott and was a year behind that group and was never going to CHS. Who out of the sophomore group played summer ball with CHS? I know the big kid did and maybe one or 2 others. So that would mean 3 played with UHS as a total of 6 went to UHS from Prescott that year. I know UHS tried to play CHS 15/16 & 16/17 years with no luck.

I never said they were ever CHS players.  I said CHS would need to keep the better players in Cookeville for things to change.   But your point on the number of PMS players going to UHS is exactly what I am talking about.  That can’t happen and CHS be a state power.   There were lots of reasons that happened.  Maybe new coach will change all of that.

And the reason they don’t play currently probably has more to do with the girls team.  I am sure the girls team would have loved to have played Cookeville 15-17 with Levy!  And I am sure Cookeville wanted no part of that.  Hopefully they can work things out and make it happen.  Would be a crazy environment for both schools.  Again maybe new coach will help.  Good luck this year.

I look at this way.  You should go to the high school that is closest to the elementary school that you go to.  Say if you go to Avery Trace or Prescott you should go to Cookeville  High School.  That is out of respect.  Cause if those schools are good enough for you to go to then why wouldn't the high school be good enough for you.  Yeah I can understand that Cookeville High School is bigger than Upperman but that shouldn't be a issue.

I look at it this way if your willing to take on the responsibility of transportation to and from school until the child can drive. Go to the school you want to go to if you live in an open enrollment zone. I do not agree with changing from year to year. Why have open enrollment if you can't choose your school? Prescott has a good STEM program that drawls some students. UHS boys and girls basketball has had success in recent years and that will drawl students. Just because CHS has over 2000 students will push some families away. My understanding is CHS charges to play baseball that pushes some away. The new coach at CHS may make some changes and that may help. Time will tell.

First, some kids zoned for Prescott  done Burgess falls area are actually as close to Upperman as they are CHS. Second, when they build a new HS in Cookeville, and it will happen, not of this they are Cookeville kids will matter.

Cookeville is a funny duck kind of place...like Lebanon...lots of growth but small town political bs. That said the game has passed Bray by.

Cookeville is political funny duck place, very little tradition to meet parental expectations. But please, please explain how the game has passed Coach Bray by?

Prescott is closer to Upperman.

    • Egotistical? That's a new one.  It's funny, I'm friends with two of the younger coaches that he "ran off" as you say. In fact, he helped them find jobs, encouraged them to do what was best for their growing families, provided advice, support and still does to this day.

    • Track has always been big at OR. Ran off about 7 straight titles in the 60s. Your hate for Gaddis runs deep, huh? What did he ever do to you, to make you disdain him that much? You can’t seem to stop talking about the guy. He’s living rent free in your head. Might wanna get that checked out. Not good to go to the grave with that in your heart.
    • This late in the year, you’d have to think they’d go with an Asst. on staff, right? I’m pretty new to the area so still learning how folks do things around here…if Woods stays there to teach, it could be hard on a new guy/staff coming in…
    • Well, your Big Western Hunt better turn up some Zebras to come graze on the Stones to make the jungle gametime ready again and make sure the plumber bros. still will come service the facilities at the Mecca. I hope your weekend is Fowl. Tell Rip hello from the Five Oh. Maybe the Gravedigger will catch a ride with Alphaniner on a flyover soon to BNA.
