Here's my entire opinion on the matter, then I'm done. I agree with TSSAA's punishment of the program. If a coach "loses it" on the field, assistants should control the dugout and all players on the field if possible before worrying about arguing the call, then separate coach and the official. From the video and the written account, assistant coaches and some players were confrontational towards the officials, and that's not acceptable.

Now to the initial call... I don't believe that Dusty would react to the situation as angrily as he did if it went as the ump stated. If he and Dusty had a "polite educational discussion" over the pitchers stance and windup, I'll eat your hat. If the whole truth ever comes out, I'll bet that Dusty was right about the initial situation, and either both, or just the ump escalated it to the point of control being lost. People hardly ever react as angrily as Coach did when they're wrong, and I'd trust Dusty's judgement over the ump's as to who knows the rule.

Dusty was wrong to act the way he did, no matter the reason. The assistant coaches were also wrong. the players involved should have retreated away from the infield, or remained in the dugout... the "situation" that created the incident however, (in my mind) has to be at least shared with the ump.

Bingo Trader. On point again. I just Can’t be as articulate as you. By the way I had To look up how to spell articulate. Hahaha. Bushes anyone?  See you football season brother. Making the rounds this year since I only Have one playing middle school.

Haywood High School has requested a hearing before the Board of Control members from the West Tennessee grand division in regards to recent sanctions placed on the baseball program.

The hearing will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the DoubleTree Hotel in Murfreesboro.

Tough situation for all. Hate to see future players punished but obviously a punishment of some kind is warranted. Would like to see TSSAA do what is best for players for once.

The players made mistakes as well. You can’t leave the dugout and rush out on the field. You can yell and holler at officials. You can’t motion like you are going to take a swing at officials. All of this was done by players in the video. The players do deserve punishment just like the coach.

What if those players were seniors?

Does not matter in my eyes. The players do what they are taught and their behavior is a result of their environment. Coaches who are teaching sportsmanship and correct values don’t have kids making these bad decision. You had the head coach, assistant coaches and players all actin extremely inappropriately. Clearly the culture that is cultivated within this program is toxic and in my eyes the penalty is justified.

You saw how the leader of this program acted.  His kids acted similarly.  They should both share in the punishment.

There is no place in amateur baseball for this type of behavior, I don't care what happened.  This is an embarrassment for the state of Tennessee.

    • Personally I was pulling for Lee Hammonds to get another shot. He’s earned it!
    • Tyler Williams was the logical choice to be named head football. He served as the Highlanders’ strength coach and offensive coordinator.
    • I went to practice yesterday and liked what I saw for the most part. Derek and crew have done a good job during the off-season. I was very impressed with the size of some of those boys on the offensive line. My only regret was one of the boys I was really pulling for to have a good year was dismissed from the team. I have to applaud the coaches for setting examples for the others, no one is bigger than the team. One other thing, I was hoping with that big rain we got this week some of that  yellow paint would dissolve but it didn't.
    • Couple of thoughts: 1.  I just don't understand all the intricacies in TSSAA transfer rules anymore.    William Blount had a kid that played the final part of the basketball season with them this year,  that played at Hardin Valley last year, and played football for Bearden this year.  I say that to say, I know the coaches and the AD and the Principal at WB and I will never believe they would do something they knew was wrong.  They are men of character.  I BELIEVE the same thing about the coaches and administration at Maryville.  Call me gullible, but these are men and women of integrity in my experiences with them. 2.  Much like the transfer of the Clemmer kid a couple of years ago, with Smith, the football team is getting a huge boost, but the impact on the basketball team will be just as great or maybe even greater.  With Smith playing post, it frees the Sigmund kid who will be coming back from injury, to play more with his face to the basket.  The Rebels basketball squad in my mind, will be "the program" in East Tennessee next year.
    • Could not agree more. After this year, McKenzie's new coach will have their work cut out for them. Staying in 1A would definitely be a huge plus. Most years there is not much difference in the top 5- 1A and 2A teams across the state, but after the top 5 or so there is normally a huge drop off for 1A. Regular season region play is a lot easier for 1A in West TN  right now.
