Region 7 3A

Recommended Posts

Well, folks it is getting closer and closer to football time. It looks like Region 7 3A is going to be really good again this year. Last year R7 swept R8 in the first round of the playoffs. We have several kids inside the region that are getting looks from D1 programs. I know that this region like all the others are looking at the incredible machine that is alcoa to win the title but from top to bottom this region has to be the toughest in the state.

Thoughts?

I agree with you that on a consistent basis this is the toughest (most competitive region) in 3A. I think this next year 5-3A will be very competitive. Giles, Pearl Cohn and Stratford will all be neck and neck in that one.

I am looking forward to several of them.

SG v Milan

McNairy vs Covington

Bolivar vs McNairy

Covington vs Milan

SG vs Westview

to name a few.

How good do you think Westview will be in their 1st year under Matt McConnell??

Personally I think Milan and Covington will fight it out for 1 and 2. With S Gibson, McScary and Westview fighting it out for the 3 and 4 spot. But honestly I think this region will be as closely contested as it has been in some time.

Good question. No one really knows. I do not agree with you however on how it will play out.

1. Covington.

2 - 3 SGC or Milan

4 - 5 McNairy Westview.

I could be wrong but I believe the gap between Covington and the rest of the pack has closed. They lost a lot of senior leadership especially in the trenches. They have always had low numbers so depth was not a strong point anyway. They still have the one special running back but I just feel like with all they lost and the coach leaving they are a clear number one in the region anymore.

What do you guys have returning??

Losing Marty and all the seniors is going to be a tough road to travel. I put them there because they have dominated this district since they joined it a few years ago. So, I can not dethrone them until I see the gap closed with my own eyeballs.

SGC returns a bunch of kids. If my memory serves me correctly this will be the largest senior class they have ever had. I think its 26. ( don't quote me on that going off of memory only so... not worth much )

QB, 3 backs, 3 Oline, both wideouts,

The entire defense returns minus 3 - 5 depending on what time of the year you looked at starters.

Longest tenured head coach in the region also.

I am looking forward to seeing how Westview looks this year. I do not care about the kid that got a D1 offer in 8th grade he showed me nothing. They have a kid that is a junior that can flat out play running the ball. If they can get decent blocking up front and he stays out of trouble he will surely be in contention for 1st team all region.

Seems like a couple of years ago when you got the first playoff win you had a big senior class. If you guys have that many seniors you will no doubt be tough.

lets hope!

I don't know about you but I really like the SGC v Milan being in week 10. I know the region schedules are already made out and the coaches just pull a number out of the hat but still....

There have been some classic games already played between the 2 schools. I do not think that is going to change any time soon.

Yes they are indeed some classics. And the fact that we win 85+% of the time makes it even better. :)

Covington has only one offensive lineman returning that played any significant minutes last year. The defense though returns almost everyone and I think will be strength of team. Losing four year starter at QB will be tough for sure but Hayes can go distance on any play.

    • QUICK UPDATE -  First, I see a lot of wrestling names that I recognize on that GoFundMe.  THANK YOU so much for helping this family.   After the long surgery on Sunday morning to repair his neck, Jacob suffered a collapsed lung.  Sometimes this happens after long surgeries.  They had to put him on a ventilator to get his breathing back on track.  He came off the vent on Monday morning and they put a BIPAP on him to help control his breathing.  As of today, Thursday, the BIPAP came off and he is breathing well on his own.  He is working towards drinking a glass of water and hopefully eating some solid food at some point in the near future. Jacob can "feel" when someone touches his legs, but there is still no movement.  His parents are beginning to prepare for him to be moved to the Shepherd Center in the next few days.  He will be there in Atlanta for 30-45 days.  Im sure he will receive excellent treatment. Please continue to pray for healing for him and if you are so moved, please contribute to the gofundme link above to help in any way you can.  The go fund me is doing well, but this is going to be a very long road for these guys Im afraid.. Thanks again! Sells
