Let's see... The information I took away concerns two players.  One was a player who got kicked out of Maryville and was allowed to go right on over to Alcoa and join the team. Like the person quoted in the paper said, why wasn't he put in the alternative school program?

And then there is the matter of the transfer from Sevier County and his dad. Those circumstances seem shady as well.

What am I missing?

This goes right along with our culture in the US. No child punished or held accountable for their actions. He should have gone to alternative school.

A corroding to the article I believe it said the student served his punishment prior to coming over to Alcoa.

The new transfer loophole, cuss out the teacher then go cuss out the principal, serve your three days in timeout and your free to go then your In Like flynn. You don't see that in your paper.

Again, I don't like to discuss negative stuff about kids, but addressing this part of your comment- You verify that the rules were followed.

Alcoa was just waiting with arms held out.

Isn't that a lyric from a Journey song?

I thought it was Creed!

Nice. I didn't think about them.

But since he posted that I can't get Steve Perry's (Journey's lead singer for you younger folks) voice out my head, singing

"..With open arms, helping you be, a state champ in Tennessee, open arms"

Let me get this straight... It's just a petty and personal issue when the school gives special treatment to great athletes and their parents?  There aren't any ethical problems with that? None at all?

DANG STRAIGHT! GO REBELS!

    • Agree. The man literally sacrificed time, moments, memories you can't get back with his own family for every single athlete at that school. (and many others) To those that continue to be negative about him and continue to bring him up; He's been loyal, hardworking and just his entire coaching career. Ask anyone that actually has a leg to stand on in regard to Coach.
    • Egotistical? That's a new one.  It's funny, I'm friends with two of the younger coaches that he "ran off" as you say. In fact, he helped them find jobs, encouraged them to do what was best for their growing families, provided advice, support and still does to this day.

    • Track has always been big at OR. Ran off about 7 straight titles in the 60s. Your hate for Gaddis runs deep, huh? What did he ever do to you, to make you disdain him that much? You can’t seem to stop talking about the guy. He’s living rent free in your head. Might wanna get that checked out, you don’t wanna go to the grave with that on your heart.
    • This late in the year, you’d have to think they’d go with an Asst. on staff, right? I’m pretty new to the area so still learning how folks do things around here…if Woods stays there to teach, it could be hard on a new guy/staff coming in…
