Jealous lol

I wouldnt say its a jealousy thing but it is disheartening for other rural 1A squads !!! Take LC for example It would be safe to say the nearest highschool is a long way from them so tranfers are very few and far between ! But being totally transparent ,if we was in the perfect storm so to speak as GB is with surrounding schools we would absolutely be expecting, no demanding our coach take advantage of the situation . So I guess It is understandable fpr there to be "envy" so to speak we are all human and are capable of it right? But before any real hate "not fun banter" is thrown towards GB ask yourself if you can blame them one iota ????

Oh yeah and ROLL GOLDEN TIDE

Old Pirate says player’s talent makes coaches. This old timer ain’t falling fer your mess. A coach with little talent wins rarely! A coach with talents usually wins a lot.  Ifin Ryan was that great at developing talent, he wouldn’t have needed anybody else this year. OP says gives the kids their props. The Captain @ SP manages talent. Jest what special thing does Ryan do to develop talent? Put a number on their back, put them in a good situation and give them the ball?  Too many coaches have huge egos & take far too much credit instead of giving the players credit. From your post, it sounds exactly that way.

+1. Ryan maybe a good coach. I really do not know if he is or not. I'm sure it is easier to coach when a kid moves in as a senior from 5 and 6 A schools than develop little Johnny who rarely played his first 3 years of high school. Coach Puckett does a fine job at LC and he and his staff have developed most every kid that has started for LC. A few questions for the Greenback fans. During the Cherokees run over the last 4 years how many kids were transfers that started over that time frame? Now, I am asking where all the kids during this run Greenback  born and raised? Did Greenback have transfers during this time frame that started for them? I really want to see how honest the Cherokees fans are. As for LC we got 1 transfer over the last 4 years. That was this year. The kid from Dresden stayed in Dresden so LC didn't get him.

Not jealous or envious at all. I guess I'm just old school and believe it means more when its your homegrown boys or girls growing up together and accomplishing things together. If someone else sees it another way then that his business. I would not have even commented if someone didn't start a thread about LC. This is all in good fun and if anyone feelings get hurt over an opinion on a message board then that's just sad.

Probably not going to be to surprised. I am sure Greenback has real good football players that have lived in Greenback their whole lives. I was just wandering if the transfers are a trend or something that just occurred this year.

I came to GB in the early 90’s from WB as well as others. Transfers has been coming here every since I’ve been here and probably before I came.

For starters Ryan is a good coach and yes we’ve had transfers on the team that you mentioned. The transfers that I remember coming since the 2015 season was Bailey (as an 8th grader) Roberts, Silvey, Woods. Those are the ones that was on that team. The 2017 and 18 teams were Reagon,Brown, McCord,Russell,Hoy,Jeffery as an 8th grader.

This year Rutgerson,Carnes,Milsaps and the Fields kid started here left and came back.

If there is anymore that has came they didn’t play or I forgot them.

I would bet that 90% of them were home grown kids. However, they had some GREAT additions as well. In 2016 that Kanye Roberts and Josh Silvey were full grown men with D1 talent.  Roberts came from Sequoyah and Silvey from Knox Catholic. I will say this for Greenback. When they get transfers they are usually high impact players for sure. Those two above just toyed with the opponents. When we played them up there in 2017 they had a lot of kids on that team listed on a sign I saw for baseball from when they were younger.

Also, obviously Coach Ryan is a good coach as well.

    • When Danny was a senior he was the quarterback on the 82 team and also the placeholder on extra points. At the end of the game Heritage scored a touchdown with very little time left and went ahead 9-0. On the following extra point Danny rose up and threw a perfect pass to one of his receivers which made it 11-0 and Heritage's first win against Maryville since the series started in 77. Maryville fans were highly ticked off because they felt like it was rubbing salt in the wound. The following year when both teams met again at Maryville  the Rebels ran away with the game and after the first couple of touchdowns they went for two points after each score for a pay back and the score was 45-0 at halftime. The following Monday Bob Gilbert the sports eiditor for the local paper bashed Maryville in an article called the Humilation of Teenagers and tore into Maryville even though he was a graduate of the school. Those were the good ole days when Heritage had decent teams and the rivalry between them and Maryville was a fun event to see.
    • I get all that.  And I agree too.  However, if the coach is only there to coach that would give them more time to do those things. The school system and booster clubs combine and pay them.
    • 3 sides to every story….Someone getting kicked off for saying the F word then it seems maybe your star player? Probably was the last straw.
    • who cares good luck to the kid. Hopefully he finds peace at MV.
