He did.  Tee is plenty fast enough.  He's not a burner, but that's not the type of running back he is.  Those burners are few and far between.  You see a whole lot more guys like Tee in Power 5 football than burners.

Some people buy the low times that prospects allegedly run according to the pay sites.  Like I said, it's funny how those kids who allegedly run 4.3s suddenly turn in to 4.5/4.6 type guys once they get to an NFL combine or a pro day.

IMO, 4.4 is a burner!

On the radio they (John and Jimmy) were talking up UT freshman RB, Eric Gray, and how he is the fastest RB with a 4.4, 40. But, Chandler had a little more top end speed.

And I agree with that.

There's speed and then there is football speed.  Some guys have speed, but no football speed.  I'll take  mid 4.4s to mid 4.5 guys with football speed anyday over a track speed straight line guy.

I would rather have “quick” versus speed always in a football player.

While I didn't like the way he quit on his team at mid season, I don't think the lack of production from Hurd was a majority his fault.  He just wasn't a back whose skills were a fit for Butch's rinky dink whatever you want to call it offense.  A guy that big needs to be moving forward when he gets the football, not standing still, and specially as bad as our offensive line was.

I put much more blame on Butch Jones for Hurd's issues than I do Hurd.  Butch promised Hurd that he was going to use more I-back type stuff to convince Hurd to come back for his junior year, then it turned out that Butch was just lying through his teeth like he did so many times during his tenure at UT.

Hurd just wasn't a fit for that offense as a running back.

And as it turns out, his departure was for the best when all was said and done.  He got a chance to be exposed to a completely different type of offense and at a position that much more fit his skills.   And it parlayed itself in to a spot on and NFL roster for him.

Which makes me wonder if Jones had not recruited him so heavy for a running back might he have gone somewhere else to play a more natural position like at what he ended up at?

Lack of production?

He was less than 500 yards away from being the all-time leading rusher at UT with a year to go...

Yes, he would have been a better fit in an I formation, moving forward, but lack of production? Really?

Before he left in his junior year he was averaging 4 yards per carry, which was a full yard per carry behind what he averaged his first two years.  So, yeah, lack of production compared to what he had done.

And that's not a put down.  Butch promised him he was going to get snaps in a formation with the QB under center and didn't.  Nobody is blaming Hurd for leaving.

He also has the second most rushing attempts in UT football history.  2nd only to Arian Foster

    • The winds of change are blowing in Hartsville.     Will be an interesting follow.    Would go back to the 90s and turn black the clock!
    • Did he promise you a coordinator job or something if he ever got a head coaching job? He resigned? He was at the top of the dugout last night calling plays. I wonder if those 30+ parents would let him give their kids a ride. by the way the board meeting was last night and it was not mentioned. must have been at the work session earlier this week which is not public. must be trying to keep it quiet.  Since you know so much, how much is Robbie Atwood willing to pay Adam Cothron?  Didn't you slander Eden earlier on here? You also didn't know he was a faculty coach again so how much do you really know? Some people outside this county baffle me with their need to slander others.
    • He resigned smh, and have you ever heard of charged but not convicted. Some people in this county baffle me with their need to slander others. Have you asked any of the 30+ parents that signed a petition to get him reinstated at the board meeting this week how they feel about this? Just let it play out, at the end of the day the only people that will bring TC back are the ones that know what its about at its core.    People hate losing and they aren't used to it at TC. I for 1, and I'm sure others too, understand having a dip in talent and not being able to compete for a state title every year. But in the past, TC teams have outworked more talented teams, they didn't continuously lose the turnover battle, they didn't commit 8+ penalties in several games each season, and I believe several of the folks in town that want Blake out feel as if he is neglecting the history of the program. This is from a source that used to be extremely close to the program (not me lol), Blake gets out of school midday and the players show up and there is no practice plan or itinerary.  I also understand those that are on team Blake, when he has loads of talent, he wins. He does know football and he is a tremendous DC, and if the rumors are true then he will do great things. As for the board member issue, it is what it is, everyone that's true to the county know that and nothing has changed. I agree though that they should strive to make the facilities as good as we can. And as far as potential candidates, I agree there is very few options. West, Vetetoe (yes I know), and couple others that could have some interest. Whatever happens is massive for the program during a pivotal time before the next big wave of stars make their way through.
