Your First Football Game

I don't remember who was playing but I do remember playing football with the other kids in the grassy area behind the stands. Those were the days lol

Mine was a doozy. Trousdale County played Monterey and the score was 91-0.

1976 Gallatin vs Hendersonville.  One of my cousins played on the OL.  The first time I was at a game that Gallatin lost was the 91’ state title game vs the best HS team I’ve ever seen, Oak Ridge.

The first game I can remember was the Coalfield and Lafollette High school game. Had a brother playing running back. I always stood near the end zone awaiting a break away TD as I had seen in the past and sure enough my brother broke away for what was 80 yard run with the FS to beat.  As he neared the 10 yard line the FS made his last effort. They collided and the FS I thought was going the wrong way. Turns out the FS instead of trying to tackle my brother just took the ball away and went 90 yards for the Coalfield game winning TD. Boy was that a heart breaker for all of us. He now helps coach AC with his son as Head coach. Anyone gets a chance just ask him about the memorable night in Lafollette 1969 I believe. Lol he will get a joke out of it now but at that time the tears were flowing. LOL

My dad never saw a game from the stands. After he played, he always watched on the hill next to the old concession stand near the gym with all his friends.

Mt Juliet at Cumberland (Bordeaux section of North Nashville) on 8 Sep 1967. Quite likely the first time a Black athlete had ever been on the field at Cumberland. Rainy night, celebrating my 6th birthday.
