The Commercial Appeal wraps up its preview series with a look at Division II. There were also previews of Class 6A and Class 5A, Class 4A and 3A, Class 1A and 2A, and DeSoto County.

Top players

Jabari Small, Briarcrest, Sr.: Three-star Ole Miss running back commitment rushed for 1,645 all-purpose yards and 15 touchdowns last season,.

Marcus Henderson, MUS, Sr.: Four-star offensive lineman helped lead MUS to the DII-AAA state title game last season.

Top games

Christian Brothers at MUS, Sept. 6, 7 p.m.

MUS and Christian Brothers have split the last four region titles. Last year, MUS prevailed 37-14 in the regular-season finale. This year, the rivals open region play with each other.

Briarcrest at Christian Brothers, Oct. 4, 7 p.m.

Last year's matchup was a 17-14 road win for Christian Brothers featuring big plays such as a blocked punt return for a touchdown and a 94-yard touchdown run. This year, the Saints hit the road to take on the Purple Wave.

Lausanne at St. George's, Nov. 1, 7 p.m.

Eric Gray put on a show the last time these teams met, rushing for 198 yards and five  touchdowns in a 55-14 Lausanne win. But with Gray now at Tennessee, and St. George's expected to take a step forward this season, this regular-season finale could be interesting.

Storylines to watch

Is Lausanne still team to beat in DII-AA?

Between Nov. 13, 2015 and its DII-AA semifinal loss to eventual state champ CPA, Lausanne won 38 games in a row and captured two state titles. Will the Lynx be able to replace the production from last year's senior class that included 40 touchdowns from TSSAA all-time leader Gray, 16 sacks from MTSU signee Richard Kinley and five  interceptions from All-Metro first-team selection Cameron Sims?

Will MUS repeat?

MUS won its three region games by an average margin of 32 points last season and made an appearance in the DII-AAA state title game. It was a huge leap forward from 2017 when the Owls finished 6-6. Will MUS be able to sustain its momentum without last year's DII-AAA Mr. Football Maurice Hampton and quarterback Sellers Shy?

TV time

Two of DII-AAA's top linemen have committed to play in nationally televised postseason bowls. Briarcrest's Omari Thomas will announce his college commitment live on NBC Jan. 4 at the Army All-American Bowl, and MUS' Marcus Henderson will play in the Polynesian Bowl on Jan. 18 on CBS Sports Network.

The commercial appeal is not even close on these predictions. If this is how their Sports Department ranks the teams in division 2 Class A West, they are a bunch of idiots. Here is a much more accurate prediction on how they will finish in division 2 Class A West

1 Davidson Academy

2 Nashville Christian

3 Columbia Academy

4 Fayette Academy

5 USJ

6 TCA

7 Jackson Christian

8 Tipton rosemark

9 Clarksville Academy

I agree  St George ranked 2nd in D2AA and they were beat by the number 9 in D2A. Commercial appeal does not have a clue. St George is weak and plays dirty because they are no good.
