There is a definitely an argument they shouldn't be in.  Germantown more so than Cordova since Cordova beat Germantown and also are 2-1 not 1-2.  Cordova's loss came against a Mississippi Power in South Panola who is ranked top 300 teams in the nation and has won 10 state championships in the last 26 years

Never sold on Cordova, until they beat Whitehaven lol

Gentleman:

This was brought toy attention a while back and it has changed how I view the AP. The AP is just that, the Associated Press. They are comprised of writers from large papers and not small ones. If you look at who makes up those writers then you will see that there are WAY more AP writers from East and Middle TN then from West TN. Nothing sinister about it, it's just the way it is. When these guys vote, they vote for who they are familiar with, and they are familiar with teams in or near their area. Once you leave Nashville and head to Memphis you run into Jackson and then Memphis. Those TWO supply your West TN AP voters. That's it. So, most of the AP voters don't really know West TN HS football. They are too busy writing articles about football, soccer, volleyball, and other fall sports. So the AP vote has little priority. They get a list, see the record, cast a vote. No research. Who has the time or cares?

Don't fret it.

Tournament sport.:...doesn’t matter who is ranked where anytime during the season. You will have the chance to prove your team’s actual ranking in the playoffs.

Last Poll                                        Current Poll

1. Oakland (14)       2-0        157  1                                        1. Oakland (14)           3-0         174      1

2. Maryville              2-0        140  2                                       2. Maryville                  3-0         154      2

3. Whitehaven (1)    2-0        126  3                                      3. Ravenwood (2)        3-0         137      4

4. Ravenwood (1)    2-0        113  4                                      4. Whitehaven (2)        3-0         134      3

Others receiving 12 or more points:                                  8. Dobyns-Bennett      3-0         44

 Farragut 20,  Dobyns Bennett 19

I agree it's a tournament sport, so it doesn't matter, but I think there is some sinister manipulation going on. My guess would be from the Upper East TN area where they actually kicked Greeneville out of their "coverage area" when they got good.

There are two new voters this week and WH got an additional 10 pts for a first. but dropped in total points. That is sinister and petty, but as MLRB said, it doesn't matter. I think the top 4 are correct and they are way ahead of the pack.

I agree with that.  Those top 4 are the best in my opinion.

I appreciate us still not making top 10. Shows the disrespect IMO. Hillsboro was a #4 team in 5A. That was until Gallatin beat them 49-14.

Not disrespect. Just as I said earlier, they (as myself) probably haven’t seen them play. Hillsboro is struggling and it’s apparent MJ isn’t what they typically are. Unfortunately there’s a historical component to it and Gallatin has to overcome some not so pleasant years.

That said, I believe their current body of work justifies a top 10 ranking.  Now for the guy who gave them a first place vote... that’s a different story.

Historical component??  Because Summit, Page and Kirby have one??  Crockett has one?  Maybe that guy has actually seen Gallatin.

    • Personally I was pulling for Lee Hammonds to get another shot. He’s earned it!
    • Tyler Williams was the logical choice to be named head football. He served as the Highlanders’ strength coach and offensive coordinator.
    • I went to practice yesterday and liked what I saw for the most part. Derek and crew have done a good job during the off-season. I was very impressed with the size of some of those boys on the offensive line. My only regret was one of the boys I was really pulling for to have a good year was dismissed from the team. I have to applaud the coaches for setting examples for the others, no one is bigger than the team. One other thing, I was hoping with that big rain we got this week some of that  yellow paint would dissolve but it didn't.
    • Couple of thoughts: 1.  I just don't understand all the intricacies in TSSAA transfer rules anymore.    William Blount had a kid that played the final part of the basketball season with them this year,  that played at Hardin Valley last year, and played football for Bearden this year.  I say that to say, I know the coaches and the AD and the Principal at WB and I will never believe they would do something they knew was wrong.  They are men of character.  I BELIEVE the same thing about the coaches and administration at Maryville.  Call me gullible, but these are men and women of integrity in my experiences with them. 2.  Much like the transfer of the Clemmer kid a couple of years ago, with Smith, the football team is getting a huge boost, but the impact on the basketball team will be just as great or maybe even greater.  With Smith playing post, it frees the Sigmund kid who will be coming back from injury, to play more with his face to the basket.  The Rebels basketball squad in my mind, will be "the program" in East Tennessee next year.
    • Could not agree more. After this year, McKenzie's new coach will have their work cut out for them. Staying in 1A would definitely be a huge plus. Most years there is not much difference in the top 5- 1A and 2A teams across the state, but after the top 5 or so there is normally a huge drop off for 1A. Regular season region play is a lot easier for 1A in West TN  right now.
