Marion County & Two High Schools

I would like to hear how Marion Madness feels about this proposal before I vote. Will he support the new North Marion High, the new South Marion High, or the new Jasper Middle School & Adult High School? How will all the honor and integrity and heart and determination  present at the current Jasper school be distributed equally to the new schools? Who will coach these new teams? What becomes of the secret plays?

It will be Whitwell High in the north and South Pittsburg High in the south.  We will saw Jasper's gold and silver balls in half.

Looks like the fairest place would be around the town of Sequatchie, back east over to Hwy 28. I wouldn't think an extra 10 minutes from South Pittsburg or Whitwell would cause an extra 2 hour in bus rides.

If-the tens of millions needed were available-scrap the county name and go with something like Independence High School. Yes there's another around Nashville but that's an example. Go with red, white, and blue and use Eagles or something non Warrior, Tiger, or Pirate related as the mascot. Eventually it would work. Students good enough to play would get on the field eventually though it might be junior or senior year instead of freshman or sophomore.

Better be careful what you wish for, 'cause when you get it and it isn't what you thought it would be, it's too late to wish for "the good ol' days" back.

Old Pirate is surprised there ain’t more remarks and discussion on this thread. This proposal will save tax payers money, satisfy those that push consolidation, guarantees South Pittsburg to continue to prosper as a beacon and allows Whitwell with the largest square mileage to expand with plenty of room fer expansion, Jasper gets their middle school with the only middle school football facility in the county.  Your comments and participation is requested.

Where's the option to keep it as it is?

Although 2 is definitely better than 1.

This was a plan as a last resort should Jasper people ever get consolidation through.  It eliminates their conflict of interest on location and naming.

Old Pirate says this proposal will forever stop any consolidation discussion while upgrading the talent level to the north and south. Jasper Middle could become a great feeder school source with two options fer students goin into high school.

Never goin to be 1 school. The center part of the county continues to beg fer consolidation. This proposal would address this continued distraction while saving untold additional tax revenue.

    • Lee would have been a good choice, also.  I'm sure Benny was involved with the decision.
    • Personally I was pulling for Lee Hammonds to get another shot. He’s earned it!
    • Tyler Williams was the logical choice to be named head football. He served as the Highlanders’ strength coach and offensive coordinator.
    • I went to practice yesterday and liked what I saw for the most part. Derek and crew have done a good job during the off-season. I was very impressed with the size of some of those boys on the offensive line. My only regret was one of the boys I was really pulling for to have a good year was dismissed from the team. I have to applaud the coaches for setting examples for the others, no one is bigger than the team. One other thing, I was hoping with that big rain we got this week some of that  yellow paint would dissolve but it didn't.
    • Couple of thoughts: 1.  I just don't understand all the intricacies in TSSAA transfer rules anymore.    William Blount had a kid that played the final part of the basketball season with them this year,  that played at Hardin Valley last year, and played football for Bearden this year.  I say that to say, I know the coaches and the AD and the Principal at WB and I will never believe they would do something they knew was wrong.  They are men of character.  I BELIEVE the same thing about the coaches and administration at Maryville.  Call me gullible, but these are men and women of integrity in my experiences with them. 2.  Much like the transfer of the Clemmer kid a couple of years ago, with Smith, the football team is getting a huge boost, but the impact on the basketball team will be just as great or maybe even greater.  With Smith playing post, it frees the Sigmund kid who will be coming back from injury, to play more with his face to the basket.  The Rebels basketball squad in my mind, will be "the program" in East Tennessee next year.
