Week 6: Upperman @ Oneida

Don’t know anything about Oneida, what kind of team are they?

Upperman’s defense is probably the 2nd best 3A defense in the state, they are very good.

QB is a senior who can throw and run. He’s the best athlete on most fields he steps onto.

They have a couple of good backs, one is a power back and the other is a shifty quick back. They have a good receiver who is emerging and a couple of solid complementary pieces.

If Oneida can’t pass or if they can’t stop the run they won’t have a chance. Only way to beat Upperman is to play 4 quarters of great ball.

Covington has the 2nd best defense and team in 3A. Pearl Cohn is right there with them. Alcoa, Covington and Pearl are the best teams in 3A. Then there is a drop off. Upperman is a good team but not like those 3. Before you ask, yes I have seen all of you play.

Our QB is very good as is our defense but heard good things about Oneida as well, interesting week for sure. How is the visitor seating? We normally travel well although this is a long haul and a time change for us. Anyone got any good recommendations on places to eat?

Visitors side has pretty good capacity, also a lot of standing room to. Couple of local joints but gotta plug Rae Zachs just south of oneida on hwy 27. Owner is an Oneida alum and was on the championship team from 1992. Good guy and they have about everything from Turkey and dressing to steak and burgers. Mexican joint next to Walmart is really good and Lorenzo the owner is a big supporter of local sports especially football. Phillips drive in is a pizza, burger, fish whatever restaurant / ice cream shop. There's another Mexican joint but I'm not a fan. Big box stuff of course McD's, Hardee's, sonic, taco bell, KFC, pizza joints and the like. If you're adventurous there's a food truck that doesn't move any more. BBQ joint actually, looks like a mad max prop but the BBQ is good. It's at the Grand Vista hotel at the intersection of HWY 63 and US 27. My pick is Rae Zachs, if you gotta have Mexican then El Rays by walmart. Everything is 2 -10 minutes from the school.

We throw some but normally to get that 9th man out of the box. We'll line up and run if we can. You'll see everything from spread to wing t or 3 tight end power I. Defense is usually pretty good.

Don't think we've ever played in football have we? I know we've played in basketball a time or two. I was there when we came to you place in 2007 or 2008 and got killed lol.

Yeah we usually run into a couple pretty good offenses each year in teams like greenback, meigs county or Coalfied and the like. Our DC does a good job scheming offenses.

The Bees are a good 3A team with a kid with special talent at QB. This is their second year under their new head coach and he runs a very disciplined program. They lost a lot of skill players from their 2018 state semi-final team which is hard in a school that small, but have some younger kids stepping up. Oneida will be a big challenge for them. The game will likely be won in the trenches. What has Oneida got on the OL and DL?

D line is the O line. We have a fair sized line, mostly returning from last year. We've had some injury issues at center but overall they're a physical group. Not bull dozers but a solid bunch. Gonna get a well coached team and we'll play good fundamentally sound ball. Nothing to flashy but a respectful and a respectable team. We might even hit ya a little here and there. Enjoy your trip up to The Reservation, win or lose most enjoy their visit either way.

Agree to disagree. Upperman’s defense has been dominant all season, including holding a very good LA team to 10, which is by far their lowest scoring output. Front-7 is elite. You’re certainly entitled to your opinion, I just disagree.

Tired of hearing about Pear Cohn. The other 2 get it done year in and out. PC NEEDS TO PROVE IT FIRST
