Rest them??  You just had fall break.  Surely you are not worried about next week.

Didn’t say worried, but let’s be honest, next week is for the region championship and SC hasn’t scared anyone... so why take a chance at so stupid injury? To prove a point? SC has scored 37 points through 7 games all season. They have given up 38 or more points in 5 of those seven.

Come on man...

You can give them next week off too if you want.  Doesn’t bother me one bit.

Week 9 Update

What a weekend of games! There was lots of movement and changes in the 5A playoff picture.

Teams still undefeated

Beech, Gallatin, Knox Central, and Powell

Games to watch

David Crockett vs Danial Boone

Cherokee vs TN High

Carter vs Gibbs

Knox Central vs South Doyle

West vs Fulton

Oak Ridge vs Powell

Gallatin vs Beech

Hillsboro vs Hillwood

*=non region game

Region 1 vs Region 2

Region 1

TN High pulled off a big win over David Crockett to take control of the region and the 1 playoff seed. All TN High has to do is win Friday and they are region champions out right. With the loss for Crockett it drops them to 2nd in a 3 way tie. Crockett goes to rival Daniel Boone Friday for the musket bowl. Winner of this game will pretty much lock up 2nd in the region especially with a TN High win Friday. Mo East still has a chance to get in but they have to win out, a loss and they are out of the playoffs.

Region 2

Knox Central and South Doyle meet up this week to decide who is the champ in region 2. Knox Halls has Sevier Co  in a region showdown. Halls has to just keep winning and they will finish 3rd. A loss especially next week vs Seymour could mean Halls missing the playoffs. Gibbs and Carter have a huge game with playoff implications. Winner of this game sets themselves up for a possible playoff birth. If Gibbs wins they are all but in the playoffs. Carter needs to win to move into position to make the playoffs.

If the playoffs started Friday (based on current standings)

TN High vs Gibbs

South Doyle vs Cherokee

Crockett vs Halls

Knox Central vs Daniel Boone

Region 3 vs 4

Region 3

What a game between Powell and Knox West. It would not surprise me if they meet up down the roads. Powell has secured at least a share of the region title and a win vs Oak Ridge Thursday will secure the out right title and the 1 seed. Oak Ridge is coming off of a big non region win at Mt Juliet. Oak Ridge could really make this region interesting if they were to pull the upset against Powell. Fulton has comeback from the dead after starting 0-6 they now are in position to challenge for a playoff birth and it’s not out of the cards but still could finish 2nd in the region with wins against West and Oak Ridge. Campbell Co has to win this week to win this week to keep their playoff hopes alive. Karns is out of the playoffs.

Region 4

Soddy edges out Rhea Co for the top spot in the region however Soddy has some work to do before they are crowned outright region champs. They have a big non region game against Bradley this week before going for the out right region title against Walker Valley. If Walker Valley were to win that game it would create a 3 way tie for the region championship. Which if Rhea County wins their next two against Karns and Marion and WV beats Soddy Rhea gets the 1 seed and WV gets 2nd seed and Soddy goes on the road. If Soddy wins then Soddy gets the 1 seed, Rhea 2, and Walker Valley 3rd.

If the playoffs started Friday (based on current standings)

Powell vs Lenoir City

Rhea vs Oak Ridge

West vs Walker Valley

Soddy vs Fulton

Region 5 vs 6

Region 5

Page got the convincing win over Columbia this past Friday and now turn there focus to Lincoln County. With a win Friday page will lock up the 1 seed. Shelbyville picked up a huge win against Summit this past Friday putting them in great position to take the 2nd seed. Shelbyville just has to keep winning and they are hosting a home playoff game. Summit has a bye week this week before playing Lincoln Co. Columbia has a non region game with Stratford this week before potential a big game with Shelbyville. Lincoln is still in the playoffs hunt but they have to win against Page and Summit the next two weeks.

Region 6

Gallatin and Beech finally meet this Friday night in arguably the biggest game in the state. Winner will pretty much wrap up the region title. Hunters Lane has a non region game with Whites Creek this week before facing Hillsboro in what could be a game for playoff seeding and maybe a playoff birth. Hillwood has a big opportunity this Friday to make the playoffs with a win over Hillsboro. Hillsboro has to just win the next two and they are 3rd.

If the playoffs started Friday (based on current standings)

Page vs Hillwood

Beech vs Summit

Shelbyville vs Hunters Lane

Gallatin vs Columbia

Region 7 vs 8

Region 7

Henry Co is in the driver seat for this region a win this week would secure the 1 seed and at least a share of the region championship. Dyer Co should have no trouble with West Creek this week and pretty much secure the 2nd seed. Clarksville has Northwest this week and will be on step closer to a 3rd seed. Kenwood has a non region game with Jackson Northside.

Region 8

What an interesting region. We have a tie for the region championship between Southwind and Munford. Southwind had little trouble with Brighton last Friday and Munford edged out Kirby. Southwind owns the tie breaker with the head to head win over Munford. Southwind can wrap up the 1 seed with a win Friday against Kingsbury. Ridgeway is sitting with one region loss as well but only have 3 region wins. Ridgeway can make this a very interesting situation if the can win out forcing a 3 way tie for the region. Kirby could spoil that if they beat Ridgeway in week 11. Brighton is out of the playoffs.

If the playoffs started Friday (based on current standings)

Henry vs Kirby

Munford vs Clarksville

Dyer vs Ridgeway

Southwind vs Kenwood

Week 10 Update

Well it was a wet and soggy Friday but the playoff birth picture is becoming much clearer in most regions.

Teams still undefeated

Beech and Powell

Games to watch

Soddy vs Walker Valley

Daniel Boone vs Cherokee

Knox Central vs Knox Gibbs

Seymour vs Halls

Powell vs South Doyle*

Oak Ridge vs Fulton

Shelbyville vs Columbia

Hillsboro vs Hunters Lane

Ridgeway vs Kirby

*=non region game

Region 1 vs Region 2

Region 1

TN High wrapped up the Region title with their win over Cherokee this past Friday. The race for second is far from over and will be decided this Friday. Daniel Boone currently has the second seed in region 1 and has Cherokee this Friday. With a win DB will lock in the 2nd seed for region 1 and with a loss it gets interesting they could fall all the way to 4th. Cherokee could jump up one with a win and a Crockett loss. David Crockett with a win would secure at least a 3rd and possibly a 2nd place finish if things go a certain way.

Region 2

The Championship and 1 seed went to South Doyle after knocking off Knox Central. Central can lock up the 2 seed with a win Friday over Gibbs Friday. However Gibbs can take 2nd with a win over Knox Central and a Halls lose. Seymour and Halls are in a play in game if Seymour wins they are in if Halls wins they are in. If Gibbs and Halls lose then it forces a 3 way tie. Which which the first two tie breakers won’t work so they would have to go to the 3rd tie break which would be teams on the schedule with records above 500.

If the playoffs started Friday (based on current standings)

TN High vs Knox Gibbs

Knox Central vs David Crockett

Daniel Boone vs Knox Halls

South Doyle vs Cherokee

Region 3 vs 4

Region 3

Oak Ridge gave a great effort to almost knock off Powell. However, good comeback by Powell to pull out the W and the region championship. Knox West handled business against Fulton. Oak Ridge has Fulton this week in a battle for 3rd place in the region. For Fulton if they don’t win it could mean missing the playoffs. Campbell Co is still not out of the playoffs and neither is Karns mathematically. Campbell Karns and Clinton need Oak Ridge to beat Fulton. Karns and Clinton play each other to see if they can be apart of the possible 3 way tie. Campbell has a tall task of playing Knox West to keep their slim playoff hopes alive a win and they could force the 3 way tie with Karns and Fulton. If Fulton and Campbell loses and Karns wins, then Karns is going to the playoffs since they would have the head to head against Fulton. Clinton could win but they would lose the tie breaker.

Region 4

Walker Valley vs Soddy is the big match-up for the region title. Walker Valley were to win against Soddy it would create a 3 way tie for the region championship. Which if Walker Valley wins,  Rhea gets the 1 seed and WV gets 2nd seed and Soddy goes on the road. If Soddy wins then Soddy gets the 1 seed, Rhea 2, and Walker Valley 3rd. Rhea has Marion Co in a non region game. Lenoir City has a non region match up vs William Blount.

If the playoffs started Friday (based on current standings)

Powell vs Lenoir City

Rhea vs Oak Ridge

West vs Walker Valley

Soddy vs Fulton

Region 5 vs 6

Region 5

Page has secured the Region title this past Friday after beating Lincoln Co. Shelbyville can lock in to the 2nd seed with a win over Columbia or with a loss it could throw them into a 3 way tie with Columbia and Summit. Summit has Lincoln Co this Friday and a win will secure 3rd.

Region 6

Beech has secured the region title with a great win over Gallatin. Gallatin has pretty much locked into the 2nd spot. Hillsboro and Hunters Lane will battle it out for 3rd spot on Friday.

If the playoffs started Friday (based on current standings)

Page vs Hunters Lane

Gallatin vs Summit

Shelbyville vs Hillsboro

Beech vs Columbia

Region 7 vs 8

Region 7

Henry Co has clinched the region championship no matter what happens Friday vs Northwest. Dyer Co has pretty much locked in to the 2nd seed. They play Kenwood Friday in a region match up. Kenwood is pretty much guaranteed  4th place at this point. Clarksville has pretty much secured the 3rd place in the region.

Region 8

Southwind has secured the region title and the 1 seed for the region. Munford should take care of Kingsbury and secure the 2nd seed. The battle for 3rd will be determined Friday between Ridgeway and Kirby.

If the playoffs started Friday (based on current standings)

Henry Co vs Kirby

Munford vs Clarksville

Dyer Co vs Ridgeway

Southwind vs Kenwood

As a Rhea County fan, who do you hope to play? As an OR fan, who should I hope we play (I don't know much about the teams in your region this year)? It seems like OR plays Soddy every year in the first round

I would personally want the 1 seed for 2 reasons. 1- I like our chances with Fulton, Campbell or Karns to get to Knox West. I think we match up better with West then OR or Powell at this point. I know we would have to go through Powell or OR at some point, but I’d rather it be later then sooner.  2- I would love to see OR play Walker Valley. That match up has potential to be a good football game and a high scoring game too. Plus I like to see Soddy go on the road to west in the first round. I’d love to get another shot at Soddy.

if not I don’t mind for OR to come to Rhea in the first round it’s just going to be a much tougher road through the playoffs. From having watched OR play a few times this year. They are clicking right now at the right time, and could be trouble for whoever they play. OR and Powell in a couple weeks would be another fun one.

If Rhea can get healthy before the playoffs that is the key. We rested/hardly played a couple of our guys Friday with Karns so hopefully they will be at or near 100% by the playoffs.

    • Why would the tax payers be responsible for paying for only a coach? In recent years with all the theft from various programs in schools from different programs with booster clubs (not just sports) the State of TN has made alot of rules surrounding booster clubs and how they handle money.  I have two documents to review, 1 is 40 pages from the state comptroller and the other is 37 pages from my district, so I can consider starting a booster club for my middle school program. It has been too much trouble in the past for the other coaches.  There is no way there needs to be an adult in the school building for 7 hours a day with no responsibilities except coaching.
    • The only thing that was said at half time of the 45-0 game was Coach Story, he said: "I know y'all have been out there a lot, but kick-off team, y'all need to get down there faster!" Then he and the other coaches proceeded to go into the coaches office and we all went nuts!  It was the only time I can ever remember coaches not saying anything at half time. Definitely a great memory!!!
