at least T$$AA stepped up this year and decided that all those byes were out the door and everyone in the division ant goin to the playoffs.....that was an absurd format...sendin teams with 2, 1 & even 0 W's out of 6 region games goin post season...

....must have been sum more debate down in Gulf Shores at the annual meetin to give up that gate money

Funny enough, I was in Gulf Shores a couple of times last year. It's quite nice, I must say. There's a restaurant there called Papa Rocco's that I highly recommend. Their French Dip sandwich is off-the-charts great.

But yeah, the II-AA and later II-AAA setup with everyone making the playoffs really did flatten the regular season to a degree. The incarnation with BGA in the upper division (pre II-AAA) was especially unusual, as you had a low-seeded East/Middle team playing at the West #3 seed.

As long as you didn't finish #4 of 4 in the West region, you got a home playoff game. That's how I ended up calling FRHS' playoff win at St. Benedict in 2011, a game that only happened because of the unusual format.

This also meant the end of first-round byes, so perhaps a slight disadvantage to the top teams to that end. Though there weren't many low seeds making long runs in the playoffs as it was, and this new format really should be best for all involved.

I can only imagine the reaction internally at Ensworth over this. Jordan James ran for 238 yards on 42 carries in BA's win over them last Friday, and now Ensworth might end up needing BA to beat Baylor for the Tigers to make the playoffs, only BA won't have James for that game.

Of course, James was injured in the first half of the Whitehaven game earlier this season and didn't return, and BA trailed 14-7 at the break. But BA ended up rallying in the second half with Manny Scott at RB to get the victory.

However, this is going to be a major challenge against Baylor's outstanding run defense. And it also hurts BA's passing game, as James is a very good receiver out of the backfield.

Here's hoping things work out better for James wherever he ends up. He has FBS-level talent.

Despite the departure of Jordan James, BA is still going to come out of the gates firing. They know what is at stake: either an appeasing home game or a 3 hour trek down to Memphis, likely against a Briarcrest team that would come in undefeated with its pristine run defense.

Yet again, Baylor may be as hungry as BA is, if not more. This is their biggest region test yet to where they can prove everybody wrong by beating everybody that isn't their rival. If Elijah Howard continues to do what he's been doing so far, the edge has to go to the Red Raiders. Baylor knows clear and well that it would be more difficult to come back up to Nashville two weeks later to play a team that is seeking revenge, as compared to staying home and *likely playing a team coming from 5 hours away.

There is almost an infinite amount of ways this game could go, but it is safe to say that for Baylor: they must contain the remaining threats on BA's offense & let Elijah do his thing. For BA: They must do everything in their power to contain Elijah and Neyland, as well as protect Wade Williams at all costs & let him spread the ball out against a vulnerable Red Raider secondary.

Prediction (for now)- Baylor: 34 BA: 28
