blazer1set
The GREENE went down for the first time in 30-something games to the Powell team. But does that game really matter now? Powell has to be considered a very serious contender in 5A this year. Does that mean Greeneville is still as good as advertised? Does Greeneville have any signature wins yet? Their wins since the Powell game have come against mostly teams with losing records: Boone (2-4), Union Co. (3-4), Science Hill (2-5), Austin East (4-3), Sullivan Central (1-5). Is Greeneville the real deal this year, or have they just played weak opponents thus far? Note to AC fans: This is not a "let's bash Greeneville" type of thread. I would just like to see some open discussion, X's and O's, coaching strategies, matchups, etc. Will this week's game against South (4-2) be the real test? Or does that not happen until the Elizabethton game?

noonesfool
Question Blazer..... who was Elizabethton’s signature win? Cherokee who beat no win Morristown East by 4 or William Blount who beat hapless Hertage. Maybe it was Science Hill who they traded TDs with throughout the game. Your response might help with the Greeneville perspective. The loss to Powell probably says more about GHS than our wins at this point. Elizabethton has beaten: Science Hill (2-5), Sullivan East (0-6), Boone (2-4), Grainger (3-3), Cherokee (6-1), William Blount (2-5). Not exactly a bunch of teams > .500 is it? That is sort of my point.... Greeneville has only played one good team, same for Elizabethton. So how good are both of these teams? Is it just a case of lousy scheduling against weak opponents? Oct 18 will be a barn-burner

SH would dust them. Jokingly our records look like The Anderson County’s schedule that we tease them about. BatmanDevil
Some things are the same this year when it comes to who are the best 4A teams in east Tennessee. The difference from last year is this. There was no question that the Devils were going to win state last year unless something went wrong. It's not just getting past AC and Elizabethton this year. You have to wonder who else around the state will bring it to the table. Also, this is a very strong Devil team but there is not nearly as much room for mistakes and they will have to play well against Elizabethton,AC and whoever to make it three in a row.As for Friday night,it would surprise me if the devils don't take care of business quickly. Mavericksinflight
The Mavs have the 15th hardest schedule this years in comparison to Greeneville at maybe 40. This is a major difference for AC if Greeneville plays the Mavs. The Mavs will be awesome next hear but they are not waiting around for next year they want the gold ball this year. And they will take it this year and ask questions later. Edited October 10, 2019 by Mavericksinflight
Greendevil87
Greeneville is good enough to get back this year. If they stay healthy, and play clean football which means no turnovers and limit penalty yard's to somewhere around 50 or less in the big Games to come. And then I like their Chances

There are a lot of factors .Injuries like a couple of years ago for AC at Greeneville during the game can be major. How teams matchup is always a question.I remember in 2009,there was no way South was going to beat TH in the playoffs.Boone upset TH and South went on to the semi's . (Please don't tell me from Coach T because it only factor's in Win/loss not actually who you have played). Both teams loss was to their toughest competition in Powell. Greeneville loss by 2 AC loss by 12 the following week.
