kwc
The Commercial Appeal: Top 10 Memphis-area prep football games for Week 11 Game of the Week MUS (8-1, 3-1 DII-AAA West) at Briarcrest Christian (9-0, 4-0) The winner takes the top seed in DII-AAA West. Each team has a four-star lineman in MUS' Marcus Henderson and Briarcrest's Omari Thomas. A pair of AAC commitments will be on the field in MUS defensive back Devonte Nelson, who is committed to Memphis, and Briarcrest defensive back Reggie Neely, who is committed to Tulane. Briarcrest running back Jabari Small (Ole Miss commitment) is one of the most explosive playmakers in the area. Briarcrest leads the region in points per game (37.5) and points allowed (10.7). MUS is a close second in both categories. MUS is the defending region champion. The last time these teams met, MUS won 38-0. When: Friday at 7 p.m. Thompson's pick: Briarcrest 31, MUS 24 Southwind (6-3) at Houston (9-0) This matchup features a pair of productive running backs in Southwind's Romal Webb and Houston's Lincoln Pare. The Jaguars have won five of their last six. Houston has scored 28 or more in every game. Southwind gets the top-seed in 8-5A if Kirby wins or if Southwind, Ridgeway, and Munford all win. Southwind could drop to third place in the region if they lose and Ridgeway and Munford win. When: Friday at 7 p.m. Thompson's pick: Houston 38, Southwind 21 Both teams have qualified for the playoffs. If Ridgeway wins and winless Kingsbury upsets Munford, the Roadrunners get the top seed. Ridgeway has won five of its last six, with the loss coming in overtime to Munford. Kirby bounced back from a double-overtime loss to Munford with a 41-18 win over Overton. The Cougar defense has posted five shutouts. When: Friday at 7 p.m. Thompson's pick: Kirby 35, Ridgeway 24 Evangelical Christian (8-1, 4-0 DII-AA West) at First Assembly (5-4, 3-1) An ECS win means the Eagles win the region outright. FACS gets the top seed if it wins and Lausanne loses to St. George's. But if FACS and Lausanne win, ECS would win a three-way tiebreaker based on overall wins, Lausanne would be No. 2 and FACS would be No. 3. ECS has held every opponent except Houston to 14 or less. FACS has scored 33 or more six times. When: Friday at 7 p.m. Thompson's pick: ECS 31, FACS 21 Bartlett (6-3, 2-1 7-6A) at Collierville (4-5, 1-2) Both teams are in the playoffs. Bartlett clinched its first winning season since 2001 last week. Collierville can match last year's win total with a win. If Bartlett wins it secures the second seed in 7-6A. If Collierville wins and Arlington loses to Cordova, Collierville is the No. 2 seed. When: Friday at 7 p.m. Thompson's pick: Bartlett 28, Collierville 20 Central (4-5, 1-1 8-6A) at Whitehaven (7-1, 2-0) Both teams are in the playoffs because it's a four-team region. If Central wins and Germantown beats White Station, Central is the No. 1 seed. Whitehaven is the No. 1 seed under any other scenario. Whitehaven has posted five shutouts, including its last two games. If the Tigers get another shutout Friday night, they'll have shut out the entire region. Central comes in averaging 24 points. Four SEC commitments will be on the field in Whitehaven linebackers Bryson Eason, Martavius French, and Tamarion McDonald (Tennessee) and Central receiver Darin Turner (Arkansas). When: Friday at 7 p.m. Thompson's pick: Whitehaven 28, Central 10 White Station (5-4, 1-1 8-6A) at Germantown (2-7, 0-2) White Station can finish as the No. 2 or 4 seed. Germantown can finish as No. 3 or 4. These two teams took on the defending state runner-ups in DII-AAA and 6A last week. White Station gave up 21 unanswered second-half points in a 21-12 loss to MUS. Germantown was shut out 39-0 by Whitehaven. When: Friday at 7 p.m. Thompson's pick: White Station 24, Germantown 7 Lausanne (4-4, 3-1 DII-AA West) at St. George's (4-5, 2-2) Lausanne will finish as the No. 2 seed with a win and No. 4 with a loss. St. George's will finish No. 3 with a win and No. 4 with a loss. In its last five games, Lausanne has either won by 40 or lost by a touchdown. St. George's has lost four of its last six. When: Friday at 7 p.m. Thompson's Pick: Lausanne 31, St. George's 17 Fairley (7-2, 7-0 8-2A) at MAHS (6-3, 5-2) Region 8-2A's top offense meets its top defense. Fairley, led by MTSU commitment Terry Wilkins, is averaging 34.2 points. MAHS is limiting opponents to 10.2. Fairley and Mitchell are the top two seeds in the region regardless of outcome. MAHS can move up to third if it and KIPP win. When: Friday at 7 p.m. Thompson's pick: Fairley 35, MAHS 14 East (6-3, 5-2 8-1A) at MASE (6-3, 5-2) East is looking to snap a two-game losing streak. MASE is coming off of a 46-7 loss to Middle College. Both teams are in the playoffs. The winner is the No. 2 seed. When: Friday at 7 p.m. Thompson's pick: East 21, MASE 14 Greetings, my name is Khari Memphis is a great place to be a high school sports reporter.
