THE WEATHER! ...... Oh, really ?!?!?

Seems like several threads lately have addressed playing football games in bad (i.e., rainy) weather.    I seem to see two general themes:

1 - For a mostly running team it's "Well rain gives us a disadvantage because it is harder to hold on to the ball", i.e., we can't stop fumbling.

2 - For a mostly passing team it's "Well rain give us a disadvantage because everybody knows you can't pass/catch in the rain", i.e., our receivers are butterfingers.

Does it only rain on one side of the ball and not the other?     We all know rain makes for a sloppy game, but man some of the excuses....

What do you guys think??

Weather conditions can impact a game. A strong wind condition (& even rain) will hurt a team that throws the ball 20+ times a game more than a running team that normally throws it 5-6 times a game.
At the end of the day, you have to line up & play in the conditions as they are & I don’t like seeing weather used as an excuse, but weather conditions do impact a game, so I am ok with the discussion.

Preach, brother, Preach!

Both teams are affected by the weather.  It doesn't stop raining when one teams gets the ball and the other goes on defense at every possession change.

And part of being a good football team is the ability to adapt and change game plans based on opponent AND conditions.

Seeing those excuses gets old.

I played a game at the old Carter High School field in weather just like we are having today. There was about four to six inches of flowing water on the visitors sidelines where the creek had risen out of its banks. We all took two pair of cleats and changed at half-time. Our running (veer) quarterback almost drowned when his head got caught under the fence. We had a blast playing in the mud. I was four inches taller after the game with all the mud caked to my cleats. I bet there is still mud in Carter's gym.

If it is going to be a severe thunderstorm or thunderstorm with lightening then I'm all for changing the date. Who wants to be in a 2 or 3 hours lightening delay?

If it is homecoming or senior night, I'm fine with teams wanting to move the game.

If it isn't for those reasons above, and just a regular season game, then I think you should play the game.

But let's be honest team don't want to lose that $$$$$ gate money.

    • Quick update on Jacob -  Jacob celebrated his 16th birthday at Vanderbilt on Tuesday and has been in decent spirits.  His sense of humor has begun to show as he was visited by many friends.  He is swallowing a lot better now and has eaten some of his favorites (Chik-Fil-A and Five Guys).   He is getting prepared to head to Atlanta to the Shepherd Center first thing tomorrow morning.  His family has been waiting on insurance approval. In case you dont know the Shepherd Center it a world class facility and supposedly one of the best in the country for spinal injury rehab.  Praying for perfect results there. Considering the circumstances, Jacob is in decent spirits.  He has some reflexive movement in his legs which I think is probably a very positive sign.  Don't read too much into that just yet as there is no telling what the real prognosis is... just hopeful that is good thing.  I am really just happy that it seems like he has a punchers chance of getting something back.  He is a strong young man and very determined so I think he will fight as hard as he can in physical therapy while down in Atlanta. More than one of you has asked me about an address to send donations.  I know GoFundMe isn't for everyone.  If you want to go that route, you can make a check to "Blackman Wrestling Club" and we will pass anything received directly to the Kinderdines.   Jacob Kinderdine c/o Blackman Wrestling 4836 Trevino Court Murfreesboro, TN  37128 Also, want to thank everyone who has donated so far.  Jacobs dad will take a month off work and stay in Atlanta with him.  They need to learn how to take care of him and do home therapy work..... and surely Jacob will be glad his dad can be there.  All that could not happen without you all.  Depending on what happens, they will probably end up doing some home remodeling in order to accommodate Jacob at their home.  Thanks again. Here's a pic I lifted from Facebook of Jacob on Oxy talking to his Uncle.  LOL

    • You do know that on a young, down season we only lost to Dyersburg in the playoffs by less than a touchdown?! You act like those two teams are unbeatable and way above our skill level
