Watched Tyner play Polk last night...................... What was up with that? Polk looked like a very bad team but moved the ball well on the Tyner D just could never punch it in because of mistakes and because... Well they are bad

Game was last Friday. How did you watch the game last night? I didn't go to the game due to other commitments. Was Polk's mistakes self inflicted or because of Tyner's D??

Film.... And there was some of both but a lot of it was Polk mistakes... I mean they would drive the ball to the red zone and then act like they didn't know how to play from there

Interesting. Got to get a TFP Saturday paper to see the stats. I'd say Polk was young/inexperienced was the reason they played poorly in red zone. They should be much better next year.

I thought the same thing when we watched the film. I feel we can move the ball. Just afraid of the speed.

Very valid question. Lets take a deeper dive into both teams schedules and how those teams rank in Sonny's Computer. Note that Sonny has a math equation that is far more complicated than any of us can figure out but for years has been fairly accurate. It's not perfect and this year seems to be more off than normal but anywho....

Let's start with Watertown.

Team    Div      Record    Sonny's latest Ranking

Gordonsville   1A   3-7   256

Nolensville   4A   8-2   61

Trousdale Co.   2A   8-1   64

DeKalb Co.    4A   6-4   151

Cascade  2A   2-8   298

White House    4A  5-5   170

Westmoreland   2A  5-5   181

Jackson Co.    2A    3-7   251

Upperman   3A   9-1   55

East Robertson   2A   5-5   235

Tellico Plains   2A   3-7   280

Avg Rank of Teams is 182.0

Now for Tyner:

Team    Div      Record    Sonny's latest Ranking

Chattanooga Central  4A  2-7   248

Bledsoe Co.    2A   7-3   148

Howard   4A   7-3   102

Marion Co.   2A   2-8   278

Alcoa   3A   9-1    1

Tellico Plains   2A   3-7   280

Baylor   Div 2 3A   9-1   5

Webb School  Div 2 1A  1-7   332

Brainard   3A   1-9   259

Polk Co.   2A   0-10  307

Westmoreland  2A   5-5   181

Avg Rank of Teams is 194.6

Based on this info Watertown's opponents have been overall higher. No doubt i would agree that Tyner has played harder teams but you can also say that the weaker teams are far weaker than Watertowns.

If your wondering, Trousdale Co. opponent avg is 208.6, Westmoreland is 174.9 and East Robertson is 180.1. Marion Co. takes the gold as their opponent avg is 154.3.

Nice! That's a really good breakdown.

Why is Watertown SOS higher than Tyner with Tyner IMO playing the tougher schedule by playing Alcoa and Baylor two of the top teams in their class? I don't know how accurate the ratings are this year.

Nolensville, Upperman, and Trousdale are on the Watertown schedule. Tyler has a very week schedule outside of two games with their region being so weak.

Watertown's SOS is no better than Marion Co. The only difference is the Won/Loss column. Out of the 8 teams, Tyner has the 3rd best SOS and 2nd best PR(power rating) behind Trousdale. Our Region was weak but this is a new season!!

    • Ah, more Coach Ham bashing. There seems to be a club, so tell us, are you the VP, Chairman?  From the stories I've heard from his past players themselves Coach Ham is one of a kind and has literally worked himself to the bone year after year at every coaching stop. His legacy isn't Ws and Ls.  So give it a rest. It may be old school cliché, but could you even walk a mile in his shoes? The man has retired from coaching, let him be. Even on these measily message boards.
