Looks like to me Beech and Gallatin both thought they would walk through the first round.

Beech survived and advanced. Gallatin has folded.

Beech I could kind of understand, but Summit is 8-2. They just wanted it more than Gallatin, completely whipped them upfront. However, they're going to have to clean it up going forward. Not many times you can have 100+ yards in penalties and 3 TO's and win

Wow, such a good season by the Green Wave too. Can't believe they have bowed out in the 1st round. Hate it for GWAVE1. Had such a stout defense all season long until tonight.

Agree, but there have been a lot of phantom penalties. Guys in black and White have green undershirts.

Guys this ain’t the end of it, talking to a gallatin coach this week, he believed Shelbyville is the team to beat out of this quad, I think they beat beech next week.

Looks like the Gallatin coach you talked to should have been more concerned with Summit.

I said I thought Shelbyville was the best team in Region 5, but if summit plays like this it maybe them.

Still with 3 turnovers. At any rate, Summit is going to be scary with the Wade brothers for 2 more years

I’ve been saying for a couple years that someone from that region was eventually gonna jump up and surprise the rest of 5A. It’s simply too rich a football area for it not to happen at some point.

I’m not saying they beat Beech next week, but the foregone conclusion of region 6 owning region 5 every year was bound to be turned on its head at some point.

I agree, 5-5A has just been too good to this year. Not really suprised Summit won, but how they did it. They dominated the trenches tonight

Too many in gallatin looking for a rematch with Beech. I said one of them wouldn’t make it.

    • Personally I was pulling for Lee Hammonds to get another shot. He’s earned it!
    • Tyler Williams was the logical choice to be named head football. He served as the Highlanders’ strength coach and offensive coordinator.
    • I went to practice yesterday and liked what I saw for the most part. Derek and crew have done a good job during the off-season. I was very impressed with the size of some of those boys on the offensive line. My only regret was one of the boys I was really pulling for to have a good year was dismissed from the team. I have to applaud the coaches for setting examples for the others, no one is bigger than the team. One other thing, I was hoping with that big rain we got this week some of that  yellow paint would dissolve but it didn't.
    • Couple of thoughts: 1.  I just don't understand all the intricacies in TSSAA transfer rules anymore.    William Blount had a kid that played the final part of the basketball season with them this year,  that played at Hardin Valley last year, and played football for Bearden this year.  I say that to say, I know the coaches and the AD and the Principal at WB and I will never believe they would do something they knew was wrong.  They are men of character.  I BELIEVE the same thing about the coaches and administration at Maryville.  Call me gullible, but these are men and women of integrity in my experiences with them. 2.  Much like the transfer of the Clemmer kid a couple of years ago, with Smith, the football team is getting a huge boost, but the impact on the basketball team will be just as great or maybe even greater.  With Smith playing post, it frees the Sigmund kid who will be coming back from injury, to play more with his face to the basket.  The Rebels basketball squad in my mind, will be "the program" in East Tennessee next year.
    • Could not agree more. After this year, McKenzie's new coach will have their work cut out for them. Staying in 1A would definitely be a huge plus. Most years there is not much difference in the top 5- 1A and 2A teams across the state, but after the top 5 or so there is normally a huge drop off for 1A. Regular season region play is a lot easier for 1A in West TN  right now.
