No, you are plain wrong.  Because there is a procedure for it, doesn't mean it is open zoned.  Furthermore, TSSAA talks about in their guidelines. For example, A senior 3 year starting QB can't just transfer from SP to Whitwell or vice verse without the parents moving into the other schools zones.  The Marion School School board regulations and TSSAA rules ARE the reason.  Furthermore, if you were correct, Fayetteille wouldn't have gotten hammered.

I don’t think we are talking about the same thing. Yes there are transfer rules in place but that has nothing to do with whether or not a school or system is considered open zone. A school system is considered open zone solely by board policy. TSSAA only regulates what the students from open zones do when they transfer. They cannot set board policy for individual systems. As before most systems in TN are open zone according to their district policy. We will have to agree to disagree.

What do you think I have been saying?

Back to my Marion County Schools example:

Read in order.

The first policy clearly outlines that students in Marion Co may attend a school other than what they are zoned for. This Marion Co board policy goes into further detail.

yes you guys have rules in place that govern transferring after you have started at a particular school. But the fact that a student can go to a school within the district other than their zoned school, no matter the reason, makes your system an open zoned system.  This is the same way with the vast majority of the school systems in the state. Thanks for providing the policy that proves my point.

Wow.  I over estimated your reading comprehension.  What I linked and you linked shows  a student can't just attend any school.  Changing within the year is even harder.  Lastly, the fact that they have defined zones means that the TSSAA also has to clear them to play which will be impacted on their playing record.

Excerpt from your link:

Quote

1.  There must be available room and teaching capacity according to applicable law, however in no case will out of District students be accepted if it will cause the District to incur expense above the federal, state and local funds available for teaching positions. In addition, if student capacity prevents effective instruction the school principal may bring the out of district requests before the Board on a case-by-case basis to determine whether the out of district student(s) will be allowed to enroll.

2. Written approval of the director of schools is required.

3. Non-resident students must pay a tuition fee established annually by the Board as follows:

My assertion is that most school systems in the state are open zone. You said that was false. I stated that what makes a school system open zone is that their board policy will allow a student to attend a school other than their zoned school. All the policies stated above point to that. It doesn’t matter who has to approve or what restrictions are in place. There are a handful of school systems in TN whose board policies state that students must attend zoned schools no ifs ands or buts. All others are open zoned.  If the board policy says the student can attend another school they are open zoned. You have a teacher/administrator of 21 years and a school board member up above telling you that.  Good day.

That will get you a cup of coffee in Fayetteville, TN.

I'm not familiar with the Lincoln County Process. See what I did there.. I made a Whiskey joke.

BPM is correct. Most are open "zone".

Based on what?  Knox County has zones & districts.  Hamilton County has zones.  Marion County has zones.  As per TSSAA rules, they are not "open zoned."  I don't know of any major city school systems anymore.  Chattanooga City schools folded in the 90s.  Knoxville don't anymore and neither does Memphis.  Nashville is metro.  Many of the 95 counties have a single public high school like Trousdale, Sequatchie and Bledsoe so its moot except for out of county students. That said, we just saw that Fayetteville City school has a zone even though its the only H.S. in town.  As far as the Lincoln County Process, it transferred to Moore County!

Kids in Knox County go to school all over that county, within their rules. A lot of school systems will let you cross county lines with no fee or tuition at all. Signal Mountain got in trouble a few years back, because they broke Hamilton County's own rules.

Thanks for the Hamilton County links, but mine will stay at Maryville. Here is our zone.

    • Yea I agree I will say tho I was a big “ v “ fan if an  opening ever did happen I think it would’ve been good to see him have a shot coming from a power house like Oakland. I’m sure he’s learned a lot from Kevin.  I bet he would bring a really good offense scheme IMO But after all this I just dunno anymore.  Whatever happens with the rumors an such if it did come to and opening I think this messes it all up.  The board members dreams are slowly slipping away now. I haven’t lived there for awhile I just hear what I hear, but my question is would there be any good potential candidates?? That’s why I don’t understand why people want b s out so bad who else could do any better ?? IMO there’s nothing attractive about it? As I stated earlier I went to the last game last year and taking a leak in a porta Potty is pretty sad and still nothing being done they say ..
    • I have a sophomore that can do 177 (preferred) or 192. Sent you an email.
    • speaking of board members how can a man get arrested 12 days ago and still be head coaching a team in TC school system? looks like your right about the tc board members. I bet it would be different if they had a kid on the team
