If my old friend LOD will come up I'll take you two over to Big Ed's but it's winter time and a bit cold for a old man to get out and stand in the weather to cook a bunch of ribs. Maybe.

WILDCAT PRIDE

As much as I would love it, I will be out of pocket attending a memorial of one of my troops.  Man died Way too young.  He was one of the snipers in Mogadishu during Black Hawk down.  I got him as a sniper when I commanded the State's Anti Terr unit.  Small, but very tight unit.   One of them was over here today helping 'the OLD MAN' with a chore I couldn't do.

Looking forward to this one...I see Oak Ridge as a very talented, but inconsistent football team just based on the scores and games they have played on there schedule. I know that Oak ridge will be ready to play and give West there best shot out there. As for West, they looked good against Walker Valley last week and a team on a mission to play Powell in a rematch.

I think West will win, but Ill go 35-20.

Go Rebels!

Oak Ridge needs to be able to run the ball and control the clock.West may be the hardest team in 5a to do that against. The Oak Ridge passing game struggles unless the run game is working.West done a good job using their speed on offense to hurt our defense. We just don't have the speed this yr to shut down the outside stuff. The Oak Ridge pass defense was so much better as far as coverage goes Friday but our DBs and OLBs still miss way to many tackles.West is just the worst matchup for Oak Ridge.Ill be happy if we are in the game in the 4th qtr.And if our QB is out it will be over by halftime. The freshman is nowhere near ready to play a playoff game vs a top defense in the state.RWR

I agree with everything in your post. If we're in this game late I will be ecstatic. Terrible match up for OR!

West has played some good football this year. They rolled the dice versus a good Powell bunch for their only loss of the year. It'll be interesting to see how the 5A eastern part of the bracket works out this year. Lots of good teams: Central, Powell, West, South-Doyle, Oak Ridge, Gibbs. Hopefully one of them will take a Gold Ball back East. Odds are in this one that Oak Ridge will outlast West. West's RB shows up to some games and doesn't to others. Seems like he gets "injured" in every game. Also, it proves difficult to beat the same team twice in one season, as well. Nonetheless, it should be an excellent matchup.

West is bigger, stronger, faster and deeper.  They have improved each week.  Nobody injured.  They should win this game.  OR will need their best game of the year in all areas to keep it close and have a chance to win at the end.  OR will need no turnovers.  Plus they will have to block, tackle, cover, throw, catch, kick and cover kicks better this week. And catch a break or two.   But other than that we are good.  lol.  This is a huge challenge.  But hey, still gotta play the game. The ball is shaped funny for a reason.

Hopefully our fans will show up for this one.  Last week was the smallest road crowd I can ever remember for an Oak Ridge team.

Im thinking this will be the last game for the next 3 to 5 years that a team is bigger, stronger, faster and deeper than Oak Ridge. But for now I cant remember a time I felt like we was this outmatched. But our guys have heart and I can promise Jacob Adams will be all over the place doing what he can.Romano will give everything he has and maybe with some breaks we can hang around.

    • Personally I was pulling for Lee Hammonds to get another shot. He’s earned it!
    • Tyler Williams was the logical choice to be named head football. He served as the Highlanders’ strength coach and offensive coordinator.
    • I went to practice yesterday and liked what I saw for the most part. Derek and crew have done a good job during the off-season. I was very impressed with the size of some of those boys on the offensive line. My only regret was one of the boys I was really pulling for to have a good year was dismissed from the team. I have to applaud the coaches for setting examples for the others, no one is bigger than the team. One other thing, I was hoping with that big rain we got this week some of that  yellow paint would dissolve but it didn't.
    • Couple of thoughts: 1.  I just don't understand all the intricacies in TSSAA transfer rules anymore.    William Blount had a kid that played the final part of the basketball season with them this year,  that played at Hardin Valley last year, and played football for Bearden this year.  I say that to say, I know the coaches and the AD and the Principal at WB and I will never believe they would do something they knew was wrong.  They are men of character.  I BELIEVE the same thing about the coaches and administration at Maryville.  Call me gullible, but these are men and women of integrity in my experiences with them. 2.  Much like the transfer of the Clemmer kid a couple of years ago, with Smith, the football team is getting a huge boost, but the impact on the basketball team will be just as great or maybe even greater.  With Smith playing post, it frees the Sigmund kid who will be coming back from injury, to play more with his face to the basket.  The Rebels basketball squad in my mind, will be "the program" in East Tennessee next year.
    • Could not agree more. After this year, McKenzie's new coach will have their work cut out for them. Staying in 1A would definitely be a huge plus. Most years there is not much difference in the top 5- 1A and 2A teams across the state, but after the top 5 or so there is normally a huge drop off for 1A. Regular season region play is a lot easier for 1A in West TN  right now.
