The Commercial Appeal: High school football power rankings for Week 2 of playoffs

 

Here's a look at the Memphis-area high school football power rankings as we enter Week 2 of the playoffs.

1. Whitehaven (9-1): The Tigers were dominant in a 50-8 first-round win over Cordova. Next comes a rematch of the Tigers' regular-season finale. Last week: No. 1. This week: vs. Central.

2. Houston (11-0): The Mustangs defeated rival Germantown 56-12 in the first round. Houston has scored 50 or more in three of its past five games. Last week: No. 2. This week: vs. White Station.

3. Memphis University School (9-1): The Owls were idle last week. Next comes a matchup featuring three of the state's top offensive line prospects in MUS four-star Marcus Henderson as well as Knoxville Catholic's Bryn Tucker (Clemson commitment) and Cooper Mays (Tennessee commitment). Last week: No. 3. This week: vs. Knoxville Catholic.

4. Briarcrest Christian (9-1): The Saints were idle last week. This week's game features two of the state's top three college prospects in Briarcrest four-star lineman Omari Thomas and Tennessee defensive back commitment Keshawn Lawrence. Last week: No. 4. This week: vs. Ensworth.

5. Evangelical Christian School (10-1): The Eagles cruised to a 45-7 win over Harding Academy. Next comes a matchup with last year's head coach. Last week: No. 5. This week: vs. Battle Ground Academy.

6. Olive Branch (8-3): The Conquistadors closed out the regular season with a 38-23 win over Hernando. Next, Olive Branch hosts a first-round game. Last week: No. 6. This week: vs. Madison Central.

7. Covington (9-2): The Chargers posted a 48-6 road win over Melrose. Next comes a battle with 7-3A's top seed, which beat the Chargers by a touchdown on Oct. 18. Last week: No. 7. This week: at South Gibson.

8. Christian Brothers (6-4): The Purple Wave was idle last week. This week brings a trip to Chattanooga to face Auburn defensive line commitment Jay Hardy and DII-AAA East's top seed. Last week: No. 8. This week: at McCallie.

9. Millington (9-2): The Trojans beat Dyersburg 46-29. Next comes a team that beat Dyersburg 41-0 in its regular-season finale. Last week: No. 9. This week: vs. Crockett County.

10. Wooddale (9-2): The Cardinals put up 54 points in a win over Westview. Next comes a team that shut out its first-round opponent. Last week: No. 10. This week: vs. Milan.
