Powell should have opposed the transfer on the ground it was for athletic reasons. That would have either made the transfer more difficult or held it up. But if it was prior to his freshman year, good luck. So you are calling out Central/Joel Helton. Big words calling out a dead man and Coach who is a couple of head coaches back. So you are not going to call out Coach Lowe and his coaching staff/support staff for doing the same thing? If not than big deal about what deceased Coach Helton did. I think Powell got Coach Helton back be getting Smith/Huber from Central a few years back. And they weren't freshman. Call Knox County Central office and tell them what is going on. Join the coalition of Knox County Head coaches calling Central office and calling T$$AA. The more people calling Central office and their school board members might get things changed. But if Central office does make a move to stop wholesale freshman transfer, Knox County will probably get push back from NAACP.

BT, my whole point, which I clearly stated, was that "if a transfer doesn't provide a clear academic benefit or advantage for the student, it should be denied. Period." I don't care if you're Joel Helton, Matt Lowe, or Jesus Tap-Dancing Christ. I wasn't trying to crucify Helton, I'm just recalling an experience I had 20 years ago. Don't shoot the messenger.

When my wife was teaching in Knox County, I absolutely inquired about the transfer process multiple times, and their response was typical - we're trying to be flexible and accommodating to children in a number of different situations. Just look at the student transfer form that KCS provides. Children of a teacher or school employee? Ok, that makes sense. Have a sibling at a different school? Again, makes sense. Project GRAD, Magnet program, or other unique study program? Academic advantage, so yes, that makes sense.

But then you get to the mysterious "other" box on the form, and that is where those aforementioned "buzz words" come in to play. You don't have a legitimate reason for transferring, so you have to come up with the magic words that will grant your transfer. That topic is probably worthy of a separate thread. According to KCS, they prioritize all other transfers, before they process the "other" applicants. I wonder how true that actually is. It would be interesting to see how many transfer applications they process annually, how many they approve/decline, and what the distribution of reason(s) for transferring is. I've never seen KCS release that data, but maybe I've not looked hard enough.

Alcoa is not in trouble for so called recruiting that player away from Powell. They are being investigated because the player was supposed to be a tuition student, and he paid no tuition by his family, plus an Alcoa coached transported him back and forth from Powell to Alcoa for school/practice. Powell was going to get him eligible sooner because Alcoa was not going to say he transfered to Powell for Athletic reasons, which would make the transfer go through easier. The school a player transfers from, Alcoa  can make the transfer more difficult by saying it is for Athletic reasons. Powell's in house Attorney supposedly had made a deal with Alcoa for them not to hold up the transfer to Powell. Someone must have blown the whistle to T$$AA about the no pay/still get to play and the transportation by the Alcoa coach that messed up the deal to get him eligible sooner.

You been watching too much CNN BT. Not much of anything is correct in your statement....

I'm going to vent just a bit.

I'm sure we all have at least one story we could tell, so I'm going to share one of mine. I have a close family friend who is currently a senior starter for Central. I've known his immediate and extended family since before he was born. Mom, dad, and son live in Broadacres (Powell); he attended Powell Elementary and Middle, but has a "bona fide" transfer to Central HS (prior to Lowe's return). There is zero academic or social advantage for this transfer. None. Zip. Nada. The sole purpose of the transfer is for football, and believe it or not, his family would say exactly that. All they had to do on the transfer form was highlight a couple of key "buzz words" and poof, transfer granted. I'm not a fan of it, but I also recognize that it is what it is under the current KCS transfer rules.

This s#$t goes on at every single competitive football program in Knox County and has for years. Some are more open and obvious about it than others. I haven't vocalized my opinion on this very much, but if you want to stop the cheating, put an end to this "wild west" transfer process. Joel Helton got his meat hooks in a number of my Powell classmates during my high school years, and we all know they weren't being recruited for academic purposes.

TL;DR - If a transfer doesn't provide a clear academic benefit or advantage for the student, it should be denied. Period.

There is zero academic or social advantage for this transfer. I agree with this, not sure a player driving past 3 high schools to get to Powell is "bona fide" especially if the student has siblings at the school they are suppose to be at.

This type of satirical humor is underrated in modern society.  Cheers to you.

When people poorly paraphrase your work... It's not quite plagiarism.  I guess that makes it okay with the TSSAA.  Doesn't mean we can't all see the problem.

English please.....lol  You said a mouth full.  First off kid in question is average player at best.  So for schools to go out of there way, like you are saying is ridiculous lol.  Bottom line is kid lives in Powell and was going to Alcoa.  Who paid what and drove what, to where, and so one makes no difference.  Player in question would be 4th string RB, and maybe 2nd string corner on this years Powell team.....so Powell in non shape or form would get involved with Alcoa, TSSAA, or attorneys about this kid that lives in Powell and is zoned for Powell.

I heard the West Powell rematch is going to be on Packer Vision, is this true?  Anybody heard this?

70% chance of rain.  Does this favor either team?

You are correct.

Given that Powell is much more comfortable throwing the ball around than West, I would think that a rainy night would favor West.

    • Yea I agree I will say tho I was a big “ v “ fan if an  opening ever did happen I think it would’ve been good to see him have a shot coming from a power house like Oakland. I’m sure he’s learned a lot from Kevin.  I bet he would bring a really good offense scheme IMO But after all this I just dunno anymore.  Whatever happens with the rumors an such if it did come to and opening I think this messes it all up.  The board members dreams are slowly slipping away now. I haven’t lived there for awhile I just hear what I hear, but my question is would there be any good potential candidates?? That’s why I don’t understand why people want b s out so bad who else could do any better ?? IMO there’s nothing attractive about it? As I stated earlier I went to the last game last year and taking a leak in a porta Potty is pretty sad and still nothing being done they say ..

    • speaking of board members how can a man get arrested 12 days ago and still be head coaching a team in TC school system? looks like your right about the tc board members. I bet it would be different if they had a kid on the team
