Many games! I used to live in both Alcoa and Maryville...went to a game just about every week. I know several people in Maryville...I worked there.

Don’t set a number take all the schools in the state. List from highest to lowest enrollment cut them in 5 even sections. Problem solved.

How many public HS in Tennessee?  Let's say 300  If you took 8 regions and 8 schools per region and have 5 classes, that would be 320 schools. Surely you can move 1 school around here and there and NOT HAVE ONLY 4 SCHOOLS IN A REGION.  Guessing that schools with a losing record and in the playoffs, most often come from regions with 5 or fewer schools.

They need to change to take only the top 2 teams - you are always going to have teams with losing records if you include 4 from each region.

Don't think that is true but it could be.  With regions that have 7-8 teams, the chances of having 4 teams with .500 or above records are far greater than regions with 4-5 teams.

I've long been in favor of a plan that makes just the top 2 spots guaranteed and make the other 16 at-large or wildcards

Livingston Academy won state championship in 2005 as number 4 seed from region with Fulton, Austin East, Knox Catholic, Anderson County, and Scott County so in top two they would not have made the playoffs. This was also when TN just had 5 classifications.

Which is why I'd like for there to be a wild cards so good teams aren't penalized for playing in a strong region. I think most ppl don't mind 5-5, it's when teams make it going 2-8 or worse
