Pearl-Cohn is now 122-57 under Tony Brunetti and this will will mark their 7th trip to the State Semifinals since he took over as head coach in 2006. There's an old saying in sports that "in coaching you don't want to be the guy who replaces THE GUY, but instead you'd prefer to be the guy to replace the guy who had the unfortunate task of replacing THE GUY." Maurice Fitzgerald was the head football coach at Pearl-Cohn from 1990-2005 and in that time he compiled an overall record of 105-77 (now 145-97 Overall including his stints at Stratford and Hillsboro) and won the Class 4A State Championship in 1996 & 1997. When he resigned at Christmas time of '05 Pearl-Cohn was a very attractive job and had some suitors. When Coach Brunetti became the coach in February of '06 many wondered why a job as attractive as this couldn't land a guy who had prior head coaching experience. Pearl-Cohn has been among the most stable football coaching jobs you could find over the last 30 years with having had 2 head coaches during that time and compiling an overall mark of 227-134 with 9 trips to the State Semifinals and 2 State Championships. People have wanted for so long now for Pearl-Cohn and Alcoa to meet on a football field and honestly that should have been the case in 2017 had the Firebirds have held up their end of the bargain. I personally think this time is different because Pearl-Cohn's players remember that loss to Covington two years ago on their own homefield. Covington walked into their backyard in the second half of that game and flat out beat up PC physically and deserved to win that contest on that night. It is only poetic justice that Pearl-Cohn returns to this game with the same dream in mind and the same opponent stands in front of them. If Pearl-Cohn wants to call themselves a CHAMPIONSHIP football team then 13-0 and wins over Cane Ridge, Independence, East Nashville (twice), Giles County (twice), Hillsboro, Stratford, and even Montgomery Bell Academy just simply do not matter. This round has haunted them for so long and they need to find a way to win a critical football game against an elite opponent from West-TN. Pearl-Cohn: 42 Covington: 14 Where would the game be moved to?

hardtackle
Covington gets the win. No Alcoa matchup this year. Probably a blessing for PC.
