They've always paid a good teacher salary compared to other places in West TN. Sport's are a big part of the community so I guess they feel like it's something they should pay for. Shelby County School head coaching supplements are low in comparision to other places in the state. I was an assistant basketball coach a few years ago and my supplement was somewhere around $2000. After taxes it was thin. No offense to basketball or any coaches but Football coaches..the good ones put in so very many hours year round.. I once asked a HC what he figures he makes an hour He laughed and said me and my staff did the math once..with our teaching salaries and duties its well below minimum wage

Plus, baseball can have the kids on a summer team that they coach. I played basketball at Dyer County 94-98 and we practiced from 1:20-3:30 M-F and came back on M, T, Th from 6-8 year round. Our head coach was always there. The TSSAA has put in more restrictive regulations now and that kinda work is not possible in basketball anymore. WestVol
How's the Westview coaching search going? Anyone have names of interested candidates?

hammerhound
They should call Puckett from Lake County outstanding coach, and their weight program must be top notch with the size of their kids.

BigStickDiplomacy
Surprised Wade Comer is not mentioned. He has coached a number of good QB's.
mamabear37
Westview will make a mediocre hire that will be centered around their star QB, & good PR. Too many chiefs in the mix making decisions & calling the shots. Westview probably won’t even reach out to Puckett. Even IF he were ready to look elsewhere. He is #1 on the list for a lot of folks from Martin, but it just isn’t happening. If Westview gets this hire wrong this time( and they will) it will be interesting to see where some of their best players will be transferring....Henry Co? Trenton? Wait & see. The tables will turn. BIGPURPLEMACHINE
This is just my two cents and a lot of people may not agree with this. But if I were Jeremy Davidson (Westview principal) I would have made a call right down the street to greenfield on day 1 of this search. Look what that guy has done with practically zero talent. He gets the most out of those kids and they have been very successful the last couple of years.

Your opinion here couldn’t be farther out in left field. Let ol Davidson go for Pitt & see how fast those players will leave.
BoardHater71
Cody Finley at Gibson County would be a good hire for the Chargers. He’s had back to back winning seasons and really turned the Pioneers football program into a competitive one. Also he had good success when he was the head coach at Cheatham County.
