To answer your last question yes you might want to consider other programs.  I blame no one at all for wanting to do that. I have two sons in elementary school and if their interests are football I would want them to be part of a successful program. However it would have to be one with sound academics as well. As a teacher and “coach” I will always have academics as first priority. If a program is available, and there are some, where children can get the best of both worlds it is a no brainer. And I know some stuff about west view because my wife worked there until recently. I know lots of people there. Plus I have been an educator in West TN for 21 years now. Lots of connections. I do sincerely wish y’all nothing but the best in finding your new coach.

Thank you, sincerely, for your response. I agree with every word, & I appreciate your honesty. Academics is at the very top of the list & will always come first. Our high schooler is  an A+ student, we always expect his best with academics. Again, thank you.

As previously stated the Westview job is a tough one. They are just coming off their first winning season in several years, numbers and athletes are down, and they are playing in a very tough region.  In its current state, they wont be competing for a region championship anytime soon. Hopefully with Westview being one of the smaller 3A schools they will drop to 2A and in a couple years, will become much more competitive in doing so.  On top of those challenges, Weakley County is one of the lowest paying around which makes it very difficult to hire a successful coach away from another program. I strongly believe at this point they will need to hire an up and coming coach which they already have in house that I hear the players love.

In regards to parents being too involved, I believe it may be due to them just wanting  whats best for their children. I'll use myself and my situation as an example.  When my son was ending his middle school years and starting to look forward to his new beginning at Westview there wasn't much to look forward to. Westview was still in a downward spiral and had won very few games, we contemplated going elsewhere but chose to stay as he didn't want to be away from friends. We played the next year and after another very unsuccessful season Coach Cantrell resigns.  Many other parents including myself were happy to hear of his resignation and were looking forward to better days ahead. In comes McConnell, he gets the players fired up, changes the culture the best he can, gets them started in the right direction and ends up getting them into the playoffs. Great, all things are looking up! Then they aren't, he resigns and heads home. Bring on another coaching search, these are fun right? I mean I truly wouldn't want to be in the principal's shoes and have the responsibility of hiring a coach for a program that just isn't currently a great job and that doesn't really compete financially with others around.  I get it, it's hard, really hard!! What I can't understand that was done is not reaching out to every possible candidate that shows interest. I heard from several reliable sources that there were in fact, several coaches that had shown interest in the job that were never even contacted.  Why wouldn't you try to reach out to everyone possible, especially those that have expressed interest. If all I've been told is correct, only 3 interviews were conducted. One of the candidates took another job shortly after, one was offered, given time to decide his future with the program ultimately turning it down, and then the other option respectively declined as well. Where does that leave us 48 days after Coach McConnell's resignation? Still without a coach and no where to look but inside. Which is fine, as stated before, I think he could be a great up and coming coach for Westview and the players love him but I do believe more should have been done early on into the search. As far as parents "threatening" to leave, I'm somewhat in touch with many parents and have no knowledge of anyone making threats. I have however heard some state that they might be contemplating leaving if they didn't feel the program would continue in the right direction, those that made those comments definitely wouldn't be considered "cancerous", are great kids, and the true definition of a team player. In my opinion I hope all involved choose to stay and make the best of their remaining time at Westview but I do, to some extent, understand their frustrations and wanting for their children to have a chance at a more successful program. I just hope they know what they are getting into and remember that the grass isn't always greener on the other side of the fence.

Just go on and move to West Carroll you can get the coach and if you want to be a big fish in a little pond. Westview to West Carroll sounds like a winner to me

The whole narrative about the parents being the problem is false. You can spin it anyway you’d like & it’s still bs. If anything, parents are fed up with the politics of it all, the lack of consistency, integrity & professionalism. To my knowledge NO “threats” to leave have been made by parents. Many legitimate concerns have been raised by parents, & rightfully so, given the state of the program over the last several years. Why,  when looking at all the successful programs across West TN, would parents not be considering better for their kids?! Enough is enough.

Sounds like at least one parent is giving “threats”

“ Any parent who has a son at Westview that is serious about football, my advice to you is to consider the success & resources your child can have at almost ANY otherschool. Westview administration is enept at best, & is completely comfortable with continuing to stay a mediocre football program. “

If Westview gets this hire wrong this time( and they will) it will be interesting to see where some of their best players will be transferring....Henry Co? Trenton? Wait & see. The tables will turn.

No sir, no threats. Just simply stating the obvious fact that people would/should be considering other options in the event that the administration was not able to secure a successful head coach. Which, may I add, they have yet to do.....So now we are approaching month 2 of the ongoing search for a head coach. Funny that this is what you chose to pick apart & respond to out of the last several posts. Great effort on your part, but you are still wrong. Not one threat has been made by me, just some friendly advice given to those who may need it. Also what say your “inside sources” about why Westview is struggling to fill this position???

I have no allegiance to Martin, so I really don’t care who they get. I think it is an intriguing search just because of the high profile QB. I do enjoy watching Westview play, and I look forward to them being competitive again. They are closer than you are giving them credit.

My “inside sources” has said money has been an issue. Weakley Co can’t compete with other schools in the financial department. He’s not sure how many coaches they have talked to, but says they have had some quality guys come in. He’s also not sure if they will hire a coach Monday or in May, says administration is keeping it hush-hush

    • QUICK UPDATE -  First, I see a lot of wrestling names that I recognize on that GoFundMe.  THANK YOU so much for helping this family.   After the long surgery on Sunday morning to repair his neck, Jacob suffered a collapsed lung.  Sometimes this happens after long surgeries.  They had to put him on a ventilator to get his breathing back on track.  He came off the vent on Monday morning and they put a BIPAP on him to help control his breathing.  As of today, Thursday, the BIPAP came off and he is breathing well on his own.  He is working towards drinking a glass of water and hopefully eating some solid food at some point in the near future. Jacob can "feel" when someone touches his legs, but there is still no movement.  His parents are beginning to prepare for him to be moved to the Shepherd Center in the next few days.  He will be there in Atlanta for 30-45 days.  Im sure he will receive excellent treatment. Please continue to pray for healing for him and if you are so moved, please contribute to the gofundme link above to help in any way you can.  The go fund me is doing well, but this is going to be a very long road for these guys Im afraid.. Thanks again! Sells
