Mountain Brook has to be the team to beat this year. Meck definitely is down this year and Webb school didn't look impressive against a weak Elizabethton. Mentor looks strong and I could see them and MTN Brook make it.

I personally think Mentor is the team to beat. I saw Mountain Brook play. They are strong on both defense & offense but to me Mentor looks like the team to beat this season. Mentor has a legit 5 starters that can score plus a good (not great but good) bench.

I heard from a reliable source that Bearden wanted back in but was not invited. Odd since they won it last year. Would probably compete a little better than teams like Wise or Hampton. Seems like they always have at least some talent.

Bearden was awesome last season in this tourney. They don't have the same team in 2019 so I don't think the would have been a factor.  However, when I first seen the brackets for the 2019 Arby's Classic I noticed that Bearden wasn't in it.

I still can't understand for the life of me why we wouldn't have them back. This local area without a team like Bearden just doesn't stand a chance at winning it. DB shocked some people including me when they won their opening game in a shocker.

....Or Tabernacle Baptist. I mean Hampton did beat TB.

First time Hampton has been in the Arbys since 2010 and this isn't the caliber of team to compete with the Concords and Mentors of this tourney. Wish we would've got the invite in '13, '14 or '15 tho.

Concord has a great team. Can they win 5 games to win it is the question.

The semifinals should be great. These are without a doubt the 4 best teams. I think Mentor is the best of these 4 teams but anyone of these 4 can win it. Concord put together a really nice game in the quarterfinals.

So did Mountain Brook as well though. Should be one heck off a semifinals. I'm sticking with my Mentor prediction to win it all though. I think Mentor plays Mountain Brook in the finals on Tuesday.

I'm with you, I think Mtn Brook vs Mentor in the finals. As for Bearden not being back..East also was not invited. Have a lot of close people near the top of the chain at Arbys who were upset East didn't make it. Word is that TN High was upset East wouldn't play them in football this past season so they did not invite East to the classic this year.

Well, Mountain Brook turned out to be the best team this season in the Arby's Classic. They were clearly the best team this season. Mentor failed in the semis. I thought they would at least make the Championship Game. Mountain Brook was just solid in ALL phases of the game. I now see why they're such a dominate team in Class 7A in the state of Alabama.

I figured Mentor vs Concord would be a great game Wrong!!!!!!! Championship was between 2 top 20 teams on unapproved website.

Tennessee High was ahead at halftime but laid an egg in 2nd half.

It's strange that Tennessee High stayed with Mountain Brook for one half but most every other team they faced in the tourney didn't have a chance from the opening tip it seemed like to me.

I thought for sure Mentor, North Mecklenburg, or Concord would be the teams competing with them for the title. Heck, none of them came within single digits. Just shows how strong this Mountain Brook team really is in 2019.

I expect them to take the Alabama state title in Class 7A this season unless they were to have a bad game at the wrong time. I don't see that happening though. This team is really really good. I would bet they could give Oak Hill a game or possibly even beat them.

    • He may have possibly said that to get the best out of him. Back when I was in school word got out I was going to transfer and Coach Story popped off and ask Coach Wilson in front of the team if Maryville was going to get a jock strap in return on this trade. That got back to me and I got fired up and stayed just to show them up. Now today Coach Story is one of my best friends.
    • Dylan's Dad, I'm glad you replied. I wanted to reply but wasnt willing to take the bait. There were 20 wrestlers on the team. I may be mistaken and correct me if I'm wrong but I believe 5 of the 20 attend McCallie right now and one will next year. At most, there are/were 6 kids on that team who attend McC. That leaves 14 other team members who have ZERO affiliation with McC (outside of maybe some friends) who represented our state to the best of their ability and wrestled their butts off that weekend. That weekend was a first for Tennessee and obviously a small step in the right direction for us as a state. Congratulations TEAM TN BLACK!
