I knew LC would beat Huntingdung. They could match up with Huntingdung in the trenches which is where Huntingdung over powers most teams. But they were also multi-demensional on offense which Huntingdung was not. LC could key in on the run knowing the Stanks had no vertical passing game. Huntingdung had to pick its poison against LC.

I saw most all the top teams live in 1A last year.

South Pittsburg, Greenback, Lake County, Huntingdon,  Huntland,  Fayetteville,  Cornersville a couple others.

I got around to quite a few games.  I was lucky enough for some games being played on opposite days and our open date so I made the most of it.

Having said that, I really do believe we give Lake County a better game than Greenback. I realize Greenback had the lead early in the 4th against Lake County but I honestly thought we were better than Greenback.  We just didn't get a couple calls i thought we should have against the Cherokees.  We should have put them away but to their credit they stayed in the game and pulled out the win.

Of course my opinion may be biased which is fine and other opinions will be as well.  I thought we had Greenback on the ropes but didn't deliver the knockout blow.

It would have been interesting to see. I feel a bit differently but I could be wrong.   I LC was much better against the run than the pass defensively as evidenced by their game with Westview. Although they were very good against both. Greenback was able to do what they did because of their style of play. I don’t feel y’all could have scored 23 on them like greenback did. Crockett Co a 4 qrt finalist only put up 21 on them. It may have been close with both teams running the ball the clock would have kept moving. But ultimately I feel it would have been a 28-7 or 35-14 type game. Just my two cents. No disrespect intended.

You never know.  I believe we would have brought a more physical type matchup.  Would have been good to see.  But we had our chances and it's all water under the bridge.

Hopefully our boys are lifting weights and chasing chickens while wearing ankle weights.  Champions are made in the off season when no one is watching.

Should of, could of or would of....GB and SP were two different type teams.
SP was good at shutting down the run and proved it against some good teams! As GB showed, our passing D was a little suspect at times!

Just wasn’t meant to be...wasn’t the year we all wanted but it was a good year regardless.
LC was definitely the team to beat and they showed it. As far as a matchup with SP, who knows what would of happened. Gotta play to find out!

I agree, I think SP was the better team last year,  it would have probably been a different outcome at Beene stadium.  There will be no question this year, SP should be the clear favorite.

How are yall looking?  What to expect?

It will be another year or two for us before we will play any significant role.  We lost four starting lineman and the McKinney kid.  If we can put a decent line together then maybe we will be able to give the Cherokees something to talk about.  Our junior varsity faired well against all their opponents last year but I don't see us in the mix till the season after next.  I believe you guys are the clear favorite next year.  I really don't think anybody in the east will have anything for you all from what I've been reading on here.  But you never know with transfers now a days.

Huntingdon was the 2nd best in 1A last year. I watched So. Pittsburg play Greenback and Huntingdon was more physical than So. Pittsburg and Lake County ran the ball on them just fine. LC was the most physical team on both sides of the ball last season. Imo the state title game was played in Huntingdon in the semifinals. I am not taking anything away from So. Pitt or Greenback both were very good teams. Lake County was the best team in 1A last year and there is nothing to debate about it. LC will be right back in the mix this season also. Looking forward to the 2020 football season.

I agree, LC was clearly the best in class A.

Yall won the title.  That's a given.  Congrats.

Anything after that is all water under the bridge and anyone's opinion.  Just like all unknowns/opinions/etc etc:  Your mileage may vary.

    • When Danny was a senior he was the quarterback on the 82 team and also the placeholder on extra points. At the end of the game Heritage scored a touchdown with very little time left and went ahead 9-0. On the following extra point Danny rose up and threw a perfect pass to one of his receivers which made it 11-0 and Heritage's first win against Maryville since the series started in 77. Maryville fans were highly ticked off because they felt like it was rubbing salt in the wound. The following year when both teams met again at Maryville  the Rebels ran away with the game and after the first couple of touchdowns they went for two points after each score for a pay back and the score was 45-0 at halftime. The following Monday Bob Gilbert the sports eiditor for the local paper bashed Maryville in an article called the Humilation of Teenagers and tore into Maryville even though he was a graduate of the school. Those were the good ole days when Heritage had decent teams and the rivalry between them and Maryville was a fun event to see.
    • I get all that.  And I agree too.  However, if the coach is only there to coach that would give them more time to do those things. The school system and booster clubs combine and pay them.
    • 3 sides to every story….Someone getting kicked off for saying the F word then it seems maybe your star player? Probably was the last straw.
    • who cares good luck to the kid. Hopefully he finds peace at MV.
