Unfortunately, transfers of this nature happen often.  Recruiting is widespread across the state at all levels, in all areas of the state.  The TSSAA has no way of proving it unless the parents of the player come out and say it happened. Therefore I expect nothing to happen.

I just think it is crazy that teams in Shelby county are not made to follow the same rules that the rest of the state is. If you had a kid from Mcnairy County playing at Southside, or a kid from Southside playing at South Gibson, you best believe there would be violations and penalties, but since it is Memphis, it gets put to the side. And No I had not heard about the Bartlett player being coached by their head coach, thats interesting information as well!

From the TSSAA Bylaws:

Article II

Section 13 E:

If a student with an athletic record transfers to a new school where an “athletic coaching link” existed in the past 12 months, that student is ineligible for 12 months past their first date of enrollment at the new school at all levels in the specific sports where a linkage was present. Links may include (1) attendance at an individual camp (and then transferring); (2) playing on non-school (independent) teams (and then transferring to that coach’s school); (3) transferring into a school where a former coach has been hired; and (4) transferring to a school where a former or current personal trainer or strength and conditioning coach is employed.

This is easy to prove. The kid played at Raleigh Egypt last year, the coach was the head coach at Raleigh Egypt.

Shelby County is too big to police. There are too many schools and too many kids. The TSSAA doesn't have the man power to do it. Shelby County Schools isn't going to blink if a kid has a "legitimate" change of address or claim homelessness.

Coaches don't turn each other in. (rare exceptions)

Parents shop around when their kid might not even make the team at one school but might play at another.

I bet this happens in other cities in the state but because Memphis wins championships in basketball people take notice.

It’s called cheating and there’s no room for it anywhere and should not be tolerated. Some people want to claim or call it “privilege” because they live in Memphis. It’s still cheating. If you were made to play by the same rules as the rest of the state Memphis wouldn’t have half the championships they have because a lot of the players would be ineligible.

It could be that Memphis just produces a good deal of talent over the years and it doesn't fall off a lot year in year out. We don't win every year but track record speaks for itself, especially in Triple A. Don't paint everyone with the same big brush, the whole city not cheating.

No question about the talent in Memphis. There are some great young athletes and some fine young men and women going to high schools all over the Memphis area. That’s why I used the word “some” not all. The high school and AAU coaches usually are the ones manipulating the kids. Adults who are looking to gain something by using the kids as a platform. And then you have kids that just want to play ball with their friends and I get that but that’s why the rules are in place. T$$AA and it’s governing body are the ones that need to step in and step up and say enough is enough. But they won’t because “some” will cry foul no matter what. Those are usually the most guilty. Just my two cents worth

I'm from Memphis, I've seen all kinds of stuff here but I say this to those people who say "they cheating" TELL!! LOL, if not, be quiet about it...unless you contact the TSSA, everything else is just talking. Lot of times here, people like putting out rumors of what they want someone else to snitch about. Don't be scared, if you think someone cheating, turn em in.

It is a recruiting war every year for the top 8th graders in the city!! Just look at how many players end up at a high school that is a good distance from their middle school. Just look at Arlington's talented freshman this year. They just show up in the Arlington school district. Lol.  Two came from Lowrance just down the road from Southwind and one came from Ridgeway middle. They all end up in Arlington.

Memphis has loads of talent, and I doubt that anyone would dispute that... what UC is saying, is that all too often the top talent winds up at the same place. Then you throw in the kids with participation records at more than two schools in a four year career. Things routinely happen there that rarely happen anyplace else, including Nashville, Knoxville, ect..., and nothing is questioned.

You’d be scared to see my face or hear my name. You’ve got the wrong man. My kids still go to trousdale county schools and plan on staying. Lets be the Mr. Police you’re supposed to be and stop causing more problems than there already is.

With that being said... both coaching positions in the same district open... which one of these jobs is the best job and why?  also, it is a coincidence that they both leave at the same time...
