Football reigns supreme in E TN, but is it about the wins, the kids, or the coaches - Any body remember Varsity Blues???? 14 & 7 have a great opportunity to move the right way, but I wonder how many other kids would be willing to walk away as starters from such a dominate winning program to do what they believe is best for their future if they had the means to do it????

As to recruiting with Gary Rankin, only three folks know the whole truth.  Rankin himself, the players parents, and last of all the Coach on Rankin's staff used to do it so Rankin himself is shielded.  Used to be his clip board holder at R'dale.  I have no idea who it is at Alcoa.

It will be plain as day come spring practice though.  Rankin hates doing anything like this the last minute.

Glad some things never change..............

Why is it that every time a discussion comes up about Maryville or Alcoa there is talk about recruiting? Is it just because these two teams dominate with superior coaching and no one can believe they take good players and coach them into a great team? If they were recruiting how come they are not loaded with D-1 talent, but consistently beat these teams that have multiple D-1 recruits? Asking for a friend......

That was the reason Blankenship went with Vaulton. To help his chances to play at the next level. Where he is going has a bigger stage and brighter spot lights.

Make no mistake those two will be hard to replace.  Similarly Maryville has Hodge and Davis' shoes to fill. But, both programs will.

Maybe they read my post about the recruiters saying the kids from Alcoa were a bigger risk since the competition they play overall is very weak "So they loaded up the truck and moved to Beverly".

Look at Coacht's strength of schedule last season for Alcoa, it was rated higher than 90% of the 6A teams. Look at Sonny's site. Alcoa's power rating based on schedule was in the top 5%. Sounds like your recruiter is not very good. With multiple D1 players on Alcoa's team recruiter's are already hot on the trail! Don't confuse Sam desire to play in a more pass oriented system close to his long time QB coach as an issue. Blankenship was and is flying under the radar, where Cox, Grey, etc. have interest and shown as 3 stars recruits of 247 and Rivals. That can happen at any school. Iam sure when recruiters come this spring and/or start watching film, they would pick up on his talent!

Those are the facts. Believe it or keep putting Alcoa down....typical of you ways.

Not putting Alcoa down my friend. I would love to go watch them play more often than I do but not against Scratch Ankle and Cornfield County. I actually know more parents of the players from Alcoa personally than I do Maryville so you can bet I want to see good things for them. Me and you differ on the fairness of having players living out of zone and there not being a more fair way to  be situated in an enrollment based classification that does not work all the time. There should be a multiplier rule in this situation just like there was against private schools when they all played together. Football is a business and putting butts in the stands are the name of the game  Your thinking is like one of Those Bernie Sanders Socialist, if we don't make enough money off the Pigeon Forge game to pay the light bill then somebody will pay for it. Move up to 5A and play Oak Ridge, Knox Central and Powell and have enough money at the end of the year not to have to worry how your going to send the Girls softball team or the Baseball team to the state without having to beg for money in the end.

Your 'friend' either has to be the most naïve person in Tennessee or knows NOTHING about Rankin and his history in Tn football.

So you’re saying that everyone knows that Rankin does this, but he has never got in trouble for it and that it’s different at Maryville because they never have recruits show up to play from out of their school zone??? My friend is new to the area, so please enlighten us.......

    • QUICK UPDATE -  First, I see a lot of wrestling names that I recognize on that GoFundMe.  THANK YOU so much for helping this family.   After the long surgery on Sunday morning to repair his neck, Jacob suffered a collapsed lung.  Sometimes this happens after long surgeries.  They had to put him on a ventilator to get his breathing back on track.  He came off the vent on Monday morning and they put a BIPAP on him to help control his breathing.  As of today, Thursday, the BIPAP came off and he is breathing well on his own.  He is working towards drinking a glass of water and hopefully eating some solid food at some point in the near future. Jacob can "feel" when someone touches his legs, but there is still no movement.  His parents are beginning to prepare for him to be moved to the Shepherd Center in the next few days.  He will be there in Atlanta for 30-45 days.  Im sure he will receive excellent treatment. Please continue to pray for healing for him and if you are so moved, please contribute to the gofundme link above to help in any way you can.  The go fund me is doing well, but this is going to be a very long road for these guys Im afraid.. Thanks again! Sells
