Here now!! Not to bad but it definitely isn’t jam packed!!

I haven't been to the Murphy Center in years for a girls state tournament, but I have seen videos on social media and it doesn't look good in terms of attendance. However, for Wednesday games, is this normal? Thinking that some fans can't get off work because of the short notice from Saturday night games... Just curious to see if this is normal for Wednesday games. Obviously, having AAA teams go today, doesn't help.

The home side was lots of people but the visitors side was pretty empty.

I usually attend every year and this years' attendance for opening day wasn't off much, if any. In past years having a couple of 'boro area teams really jacked up the attendance.

I just read on Twitter that TSSAA is considering changes in the tournament after Thursday’s games.

just got a notification (associated press) that the NBA is suspending their season... that should settle everyone's nerves!

Yep...

COVID-19 concerns may impact future games

March 11, 2020

Middle Tennessee State University released a statement earlier today detailing contingency plans they are putting in place out of concern for COVID-19. Many of these changes impact students and class schedules. University offices and services are expected to remain open and operational.

“While our discussions with the professionals over the past days and weeks resulted in advice to continue with our games, this has become a very fluid situation,” said Bernard Childress, TSSAA Executive Director.

“The university is permitting the girls' state basketball tournament to continue,” added Childress. “Our plan at the moment is to finish the quarterfinal round. We will be continuing to review all available information tonight and tomorrow so that we can make a determination about how the rest of the tournament will proceed.”

TSSAA staff will be in communication with the administrators of the impacted schools and teams regarding any potential changes to the tournament schedule, and any necessary public announcements will be distributed to the media and published on TSSAA.org.

AAA girls games are never a big draw anyway

I have a feeling that after the quarterfinal games tomorrow (Thursday), either the fans will not be allowed entry or it will be restricted to family. It's shaping up the way the rest of the country is restricting or eliminating large areas of contact.....except for Wal-Mart. We'll see how this turns out, but that's the feeling that I'm getting. Hopefully, I'm wrong....but not that often.

    • Tyler Williams was the logical choice to be named head football. He served as the Highlanders’ strength coach and offensive coordinator.
    • I went to practice yesterday and liked what I saw for the most part. Derek and crew have done a good job during the off-season. I was very impressed with the size of some of those boys on the offensive line. My only regret was one of the boys I was really pulling for to have a good year was dismissed from the team. I have to applaud the coaches for setting examples for the others, no one is bigger than the team. One other thing, I was hoping with that big rain we got this week some of that  yellow paint would dissolve but it didn't.
    • Couple of thoughts: 1.  I just don't understand all the intricacies in TSSAA transfer rules anymore.    William Blount had a kid that played the final part of the basketball season with them this year,  that played at Hardin Valley last year, and played football for Bearden this year.  I say that to say, I know the coaches and the AD and the Principal at WB and I will never believe they would do something they knew was wrong.  They are men of character.  I BELIEVE the same thing about the coaches and administration at Maryville.  Call me gullible, but these are men and women of integrity in my experiences with them. 2.  Much like the transfer of the Clemmer kid a couple of years ago, with Smith, the football team is getting a huge boost, but the impact on the basketball team will be just as great or maybe even greater.  With Smith playing post, it frees the Sigmund kid who will be coming back from injury, to play more with his face to the basket.  The Rebels basketball squad in my mind, will be "the program" in East Tennessee next year.
    • Could not agree more. After this year, McKenzie's new coach will have their work cut out for them. Staying in 1A would definitely be a huge plus. Most years there is not much difference in the top 5- 1A and 2A teams across the state, but after the top 5 or so there is normally a huge drop off for 1A. Regular season region play is a lot easier for 1A in West TN  right now.
    • Word is Jason Maxwell will be new AD - he is currently head baseball coach. Also heard Roc might be headed to Pope as an assistant coach.
