As of this post everyone can play August 21. Metro schools  in Nashville can not have contact until Tuesday after labor day and play first game Sept 25. This is going to have no contest games with those that can play. As of now Metro's first game will be week 6 on current schedule .  I hurt for kids in Metro , but I think others will also have no contest games and force teams that could play to be open on some Friday nights. Metro is looking at a 5 game regular schedule . There will be a lot of teams with 6,7,8 game seasons.

I am kinda confused on the just of this.Have a question or two.

Metro cant have contact till after Labor day, correct? What about the other systems that wont start till the 8th??Will they get contact practice now or have to wait? Will they be able to play the Fri they return to school? Thanks in advance.

I think now that is it fish or cut bait time a few school systems are having to make some tough decisions. I think a few systems have been  putting off the inevitable. I think there will be some decisions made in the weeks to come that will not be popular and cause some to be upset.

I agree with you. Some systems have put off making unpopular decisions to the last possible minute. I do not think metro nashville is going to be the only school system with a delayed and reduced season this year.

That is a great question. Will a district that is currently virtual or online due to coronavirus allow the football teams to practice and play? I know the Tssaa says that they can and the Governor says they can but will the school systems say yes or does it look bad to let that happen.  People will he angry either way.

So the districts that dont start till the 8th are virtual or online  BEFORE the 8th??My understanding was school had to be in session before actual games were played. But I'm not sure.

I am not sure about them. I just know about the letter that metro coaches received saying no contact until after labor day and then 3 weeks of padded contact practice playing first game the 3rd Friday night after labor day which is sept 25th game 6 on schedule as of now.

Metro schools are virtual beginning August 4th. They can practice like they have been but can't be in the building or have padded practices until after labor day. I am not even sure they can be in building which means equipment will have to be issued outdoors and players take it home daily.

I apologize I was not very clear with my point. You also bring up a good point.  Does delaying the start of school for covid mean that districts will delay the start of football? My guess is that depends on the district.

At the same time if a district starts the year virtual or online will that delay the start of football? Again my guess is that it depends on the district.

Also in either case will the football team be allowed to have full contact practice while no in the school building so that when they go back to school they can play immediately?

I wouldn’t think that all schools say you can’t go live until school starts because in a regular year kids go live before school starts to get ready for their season.

Good post. Pre Covid athletics never stop except dead period. Numerous districts have delayed school due to local Covid numbers. Some of those have the pedal to the medal in sports and some don’t.
