We still are not having contact practices in Carter County and Pujo is right nobody wants to step up and say go for it even with the Governors orders

I dont understand, what's keeping you from doing it? The school? Governor did his part, TSSAA did their part with the guidelines etc.

It's unfortunate for those kids. If they start same time as everyone else they will have had a weeks less practice then other counties on an already uneventful preseason. It wont help them their first game etc.

Yeti if the world came to an end you would want to be in Carter County because it would take another 2 years for it to get to us! In my opinion the honest answer is people who are not qualified for their job and a poorly funded Central office that literally doesn't know what to do in unusual times .

Maybe the kids should riot with all their free time they have been given. Seems to work for the other group.

So what are the chances that Carter Co teams will not be able to play August 21st games?

Someone said earlier practice is just put off a week. Right now still plan o  having first game on time. That's what I understood.

That is what I saw to. Thought by the TSSAA that you had to have three full weeks in pads before you could play your first game, so missing this week would only give them two weeks if they were able to start upcoming Monday. Wasn't sure how that worked

I think kids have been in pads for acclimation, correct me if I'm wrong I missed that at my school. However I had figured that would count? I could easily be wrong. It would be silly to miss a game because of it though. Not like the chances of missing a game randomly this year due to a covid scare or contraction isnt already a threat. Making games up now would be hard since we kept original schedule.

Nope.Helmet and shorts. This week was first FULL pads. The rules do state THREE full weeks of full pad contact before first game but maybe they will make an exception for this.

Unfortunate for the kids. Not a wrongdoing of theirs and to still be penalized is a terrible move if it works out that way.

    • Lee would have been a good choice, also.  I'm sure Benny was involved with the decision.
    • Personally I was pulling for Lee Hammonds to get another shot. He’s earned it!
    • Tyler Williams was the logical choice to be named head football. He served as the Highlanders’ strength coach and offensive coordinator.
    • I went to practice yesterday and liked what I saw for the most part. Derek and crew have done a good job during the off-season. I was very impressed with the size of some of those boys on the offensive line. My only regret was one of the boys I was really pulling for to have a good year was dismissed from the team. I have to applaud the coaches for setting examples for the others, no one is bigger than the team. One other thing, I was hoping with that big rain we got this week some of that  yellow paint would dissolve but it didn't.
    • Couple of thoughts: 1.  I just don't understand all the intricacies in TSSAA transfer rules anymore.    William Blount had a kid that played the final part of the basketball season with them this year,  that played at Hardin Valley last year, and played football for Bearden this year.  I say that to say, I know the coaches and the AD and the Principal at WB and I will never believe they would do something they knew was wrong.  They are men of character.  I BELIEVE the same thing about the coaches and administration at Maryville.  Call me gullible, but these are men and women of integrity in my experiences with them. 2.  Much like the transfer of the Clemmer kid a couple of years ago, with Smith, the football team is getting a huge boost, but the impact on the basketball team will be just as great or maybe even greater.  With Smith playing post, it frees the Sigmund kid who will be coming back from injury, to play more with his face to the basket.  The Rebels basketball squad in my mind, will be "the program" in East Tennessee next year.
