I think its gonna be interesting to see what happens COVID-wise. We are getting closer to tournament time and each day we get closer, teams are only one case away from not being able to play in their District/Region tournaments - which ultimately means no state tourney possibility. No one wants this to happen, but we have to realize it is an unfortunate possibility this year.

In order based on last years finishes:

Summertown (1st) seems to be the team beat based on last years finish, and even though they haven't had a lot of competition until this weekend, it sounds like they played really well against good schools.

Watertown (2nd) seems on par with last year. I have seen them play a couple of times. They are well-coached and play well together. That, and the experience they have, goes a long way when it comes to the state tourney. With their easy District/Region/Sectional they should have no problem returning to state.

Harpeth (3rd) has been shut down for over two weeks with Covid. That means no practices, no games. So they are hungry and ready to get on the court again. Right before getting shut down they lost to Hickman Co. at home, but then pulled a reverse sweep against a good Camden team on the road so they were showing potential. It just depends on how they come out of the other side of this.

Others definitely in contention for sure:

I know Loretto is hungry to get back to state and are always a factor. They are another well-coached team that has faced somewhat limited competition this season, and that could hurt them. Let the Weathers girls play in system without challenging them though...and their athleticism alone beats a lot of teams and takes them far.

Hickman Co. had a bad showing this past weekend. I think they are better than what they showed, since they have good wins against Dickson Co & Creek Wood (both bigger schools)...but haven't been tested much otherwise. Harpeth/Hickman Co. matches are always back and forth, but they have only played once this season. It will be down to the wire for District 10 & Region 5 and will be important for sectional seeding vs. Summertown/Loretto-home vs. away scenarios.

I haven't heard much about other teams that are usually in the single A tourney mix.

South Greene was decent last season, but graduated 4 on an otherwise young team. They have history though. State Runner ups 4-5 years in a row in recent history.

Sale Creek wasn't as strong last year, but made it to the tourney with a very young team.

No word on Gatlinburg-Pittman or Halls-but they did graduate their big hitter.

Anyone else with knowledge/insight? Always a fun time of year!!!

Hickman County had not played or practiced for two weeks before weekend tourney due to covid. Most of team back on Monday but still missing some key players. Host Harpeth on Monday Oct. 5 for district championship. District tourney will be at Hickman County on October 8th starting at 4:00 pm. Seedings as of today still up in air.

Meigs might have a chance this year, they are undefeated and they have improved a lot just in their third year.

Will have to play South Greene to get there, right? They were pretty decent last year. Assuming they are again. Tough to get info on some of these schools away from the metro areas.

South Greene or Gatlinburg-Pittman probably. Meigs plays all seniors and they have two that have developed into really good hitters, both around 5.11 and the others are really athletic, but we will see when they get to play some teams that are actually good.

Hickman Co. topples Harpeth in the final game of the regular season 3-2 to grab the top seed in District 10-A tournament on Thursday. I'm sure District 10 & Region 5 will come down to these two schools as well. It will be an all out battle I am sure!

Everyone be sure to post tournament results!
