I think those who made the alignments needs a Tennessee geography lesson. You have several schools making long hauls just for district games and pass schools that should be in the same district with each other in the process. I thought Memphis getting three districts in 2A would be a possibility but I didn't think it would happen. I bet TSSAA will be getting a lot of calls today.

so you’re meaning to tell me this is the best they can do. Guaranteed 2/4 state tournament teams year in and year out will now not even make it. While other teams districts 13-16 make it and get blown out every year wasting a spot. Not to mentioned adding the travel time for those teams in 9-12.. I mean some you’re looking at 2-3 hrs for a REGION game. That’s not even substate counted.

pathetic. Sad.

District 12

I am very interested to see how much these tentative districts change in the next couple weeks.  My thoughts after initially looking through the splits:

A - Districts 7, 9 and 13 are the strongest districts in this class and all three of these will face weak districts in the region tournament - the top 10-12 teams in this class will be very good and the dropoff from there is going to be huge.

AA - Memphis getting three districts is terrible for girls basketball.  Regions 7 and 8 will put 2 average or worse teams in the state tournament every year.  (Side Note: Memphis getting three districts is even worse for baseball and softball; I'm really shocked TSSAA went this route)  Only 2 of Westview, Gibson, Union City, Huntingdon, Summertown, Loretto, Cheatham can make a state tournament in a given year.  Regions 3 and 4 are great set ups for Westmoreland and East Nashville to make multiple trips to Murfreesboro (unless Jackson Co can turn it around).  Meigs, South Greene and McMinn Central will run the East

AAA - DISTRICT 7!! WOW!! This district makes sense geographically and is loaded.  Their region will be a lot of travel, especially if Lawrence Co hosts a region tournament.  Lawrence Co should ask to be placed in District 11 based on geography.  Jackson South Side is going to a lot of state tournaments with this layout.  Dyersburg and Dyer County twice a year will be a lot of fun.

AAAA - District 4 is still stout.  District 6 is terrible - 4 teams with only Coffee competitive recently.  I like Cookeville going to Wilson County - will be a very competitive district.  I'm shocked they split up the Williamson County schools, but, other than that, AAAA was about what I expected

Biggest bunch of BS I have ever seen in my life. Memphis having three districts is terrible for girls basketball. Just ruined the state tournament if this decision stays. Gibson County already in probably the toughest district in the state. Now if this holds up we have to venture to Middle TN for sub-state playing either a Summertown, Loretto or Cheatam County or ???  Means the great matchups of a Summertown or Loretto will never happen for GC or Westview at state.  Really is a shame. Almost as bad as what is going on on TV right now. TSSAA needs to do better than this. Balancing the power needs to be better than this. AA will be a joke if this is not fixed. Having only two of Loretto, Summertown, Huntingdon, Gibson County, Union City and Cheatam County loses a lot of tickets.

You gotta beat them to get the gold ball anyway. It's funny when your school has been that way for a decade and people tell you well you just gotta get through them and then state will be easier, and you go one time in ten years. Now that the shoe is on the other foot, the same people saying this are complaining about their competition getting better and having to actually compete instead of walking through to state every year.

Who are you referring to going one time in 10 years? All of those teams have been multiple times within the 10 years if I’m not mistaken?

I agree it is not ideal for Memphis to have three districts in AA but do we want some districts across the state with only four teams?  That’s what would happen if Memphis only has two districts.  For the record I’m not opposed to that.  If you want to balance it out more for girls you could switch district 12AA and 13AA.  I’m not sure that helps out boys basketball though.  The region tourney for some schools is going to be a long drive regardless for district 12 and 13.  That’s the same all across the state.

Gibson County has always had tough competition to get to state. Maybe you have been asleep the last several years and have no knowledge of girls basketball around here. This is like the equivalence of letting the OVC in the college football playoff have two teams in the college football playoffs and letting the SEC have two teams in the college football playoffs. We have always played tough competition but this is BS. Gibson County will play whoever it is what it is but the quality of the State Tournament will be a joke in AA combining powerhouses in West TN and Middle TN.

I know this a girls basketball board, but Memphis having three districts also impacts baseball and softball.  To stay with your analogy, it will be the equivalent of allowing high school teams to play in the College World Series.  A couple of four team districts across the state would definitely be preferable to this setup.

I know what you are saying. Competition as a whole is terrible. No disrespect to Decatur County, Scott’s Hill and Adamsville who will now have two of three in the state tournament in baseball, basketball and softball every year unless they swap District 12 and 13. And they ought too. Fair is fair and balancing the power ought to be more of a priority especially with Scott’s Hill, Decatur County and Adamsville right on the river and much closer to teams like Summertown and Loretto than any other. Looks like common sense and reality is out of the window with this deal. The five districts 12-16 needs to be 13-16 in the west condensing five to four even if it means adding a couple of two or three Memphis teams to our districts. I know Memphis’ gate money is a ton better when we have to go down there and play.

Tough Competition?

Halls who they beat by 50 every game
Middleton who hasn't been relevant in 4 years who they beat by 60 last year
Humboldt
Peabody is about the only team who has pushed them in their district recently

Then it has came down to them and greenfield the last 4 years on who wins the region. But then the substate game has been a joke the last couple years. Beating MBA by 20 both times the last 2 years whos the #1 team in memphis.

There were a few down years but no one has really been on Gibson County's level besides Greenfield in all of West TN

TCA, Trenton, Dresden, Gleason, Union City, Greenfield always tough. You think what is happening with absolutely 0 balancing of power with district alignments  and giving Memphis three districts is good for all sports in West TN and across the state???

Let's be real.  Gibson County has had an easier path to the Regional Semi-finals every year.  It's almost a given that is going to happen.  Your weaker district opponents have allowed that to happen.  I'm not taking anything away from Gibson County, great coach and tons of talent.  If your new district remains in tact, you won't have any night offs in that district.  Every district game will be a battle.  That should prepare you for the region and substate.  Whoever makes it to the state out of that region will be the clear favorites to win it all.  From a geography standpoint, when Scotts Hill, Riverside, and Adamsville were in the old single A our region opponents were always out of Memphis.  So, we are used to traveling well over a hundred miles to play our region semi and championship games.  Lastly, from a geographical standpoint Gibson County's new district makes more sense.  All of that district is further north than any of the remaining teams in our lowly district.

Jacob can "feel" when someone touches his legs, but there is still no movement.  His parents are beginning to prepare for him to be moved to the Shepherd Center in the next few days.  He will be there in Atlanta for 30-45 days.  Im sure he will receive excellent treatment. Please continue to pray for healing for him and if you are so moved, please contribute to the gofundme link above to help in any way you can.  The go fund me is doing well, but this is going to be a very long road for these guys Im afraid..
