4 Classifications

When your district has only 5 teams and the shortest district trip is right at an hour and the longest is 2 1/2 hours, it's not ideal situation. Not so much for the competition because DC actually has held up pretty good there being on top or knocking on the door year in year out but because the natural rivalries are not there close to home to bring more local interest which can propel a program.

Having to play through Shelby County and never having an opportunity to host a regional because of location is obstacle always. You have to get into the Regional and win to get Sub State at your place. But playing schools in your Region with student enrollments up to 144% larger than yours is tough. I do think DC held its own but playing the Bartletts, Arlingtons, Houstons and all the rest aint easy. 

DC is going to come in at around 1150 on enrollment so lets see where the cut off is and what a district will look like.

DC holds up fine in their district because the district has been pretty balanced as far as talent goes. Munford, Hardin Co, Brighton, and Liberty aren't traditional powerhouses. Sure each school has had a few years here and there but it's not strong. The region isn't that strong either. Arlington is all over the place, Kingsbury never has a chance, Cordova is up and down. Bartlett has been tough the past few years though. 

DC out of district schedule is weak. They schedule A teams regularly or play in small tournaments with waek competition. If they want to compete with schools in Memphis they could try to schedule more teams in Memphis for out of district schedules. Doesn't do much good to beat Lake County by 20 twice a year and roll through a weak district when your post season competition is going to be so much stronger.

If DC falls in to the AAA category they should do well. They will probably win their district/region almost every year and make some state apperances. If they fall into the AAAA category they will have a very hard time getting out of the region/substate.

AAA: Regions 7/8- 11 teams (District 14/15/16)  are a Shelby County School

Not sure how the charters will go but it could mean the TSSAA loses 42 schools. 

I think thats enough to mess up the 4 class plan.

Agree with the schedule should be strengthen. Has been an issue trying to schedule stronger teams because of couple issues. One, distance plays a factor. Location makes difficult to travel during the week but not so much on weekend. Which has brought on a second issue When a school regardless of distance looks at scheduling a game, many times the coach of the girls team wants to play but the coach of the boys does not or vice versa. When looking to schedule stronger teams even if a AA or A school, they would not agree. I know of a couple of schools with extremely strong girls or boys programs in northwest tennessee who would not schedule. 

I think falling into AAA will benefit DC a great deal. Some of those schools projected to be there will strengthen DC's schedule right away. Which should help with not only further building the program but increase local interest also which seems to have faded when DC moved to AAA. 

AAAA would be like you said very hard. Distance and schedule both.

Before the Memphis situation there were 335 schools who play basketball. There are 295 in football with 6 classes. You take away the Memphis teams you have 293 in 4 classes. If you can do 295 in 6 football classifications  should not be a problem for 4 with 293.

42 schools out of 300+ isnt going to change 4 classifications. There isnt 300 school playing football and they manage 6 classifications. I think it works out just fine still.

[Observation]

I am just glad we have more classifications so this balances out competitively at least by enrollments. No need for teams that play 4A in football being in basketball districts with schools that play 2A.

That is exactly the same boat we are in and I'm beyond happy to have 4 classifications.

the more the better the more postseason the better

I definitely think that it will create more parity among the schools.
