First of all it's South Pittsburg vs Jasper. Get that right and then we can add to it. If any SP fans call them by the other name they are not true Pirates or never played a sport for SP ever.

You'd just have to live here to know. But, Stephen Hargis, The Chattanooga Times sports guru wrote a book called 8 hateful miles that will give you all you need to know about this rivalry.

The people all over the County have relatives and friends etc at all three schools going back a century.

Yes, parades were monitored because there there would possibly be a problem from opposing teams fans. Yes, one team did spray round up on the other team's field and tear down the goal posts. And one team did paint their own field house and blame it on the other team. Yes, one teams fans did beat on the ambulance and cuss out the kid that was being taken away while flipping him off through the windows. But I wouldn't say it was fierce. It's just South Pitt and jasper.

Not a fierce rivalry just our way of life. It's great day to be a Pirate and Friday will be even better

      I used to think like that many many moons ago.  I wondered the same questions but learned that it is just not that easy.  Hiring assistant coaches can be complicated at times.  It takes a few years for HC’s to get who they feel is right for their system.  Couple that with good assistant coaches getting better jobs at times and leaving your program. More to it than some think.  I think you have a good coach up there and time will tell that story.

      You’re right, I shouldn’t jump the gun on it. Hopefully it isn’t related to the sports programs, because it’ll end up affecting a lot of innocent kids who just enjoy playing sports.

      I totally agree but just don’t want to see people jumping the gun by insinuating it was for athletic reasons. Nobody knows at the moment except for those involved in the incident itself and those investigating.
