Expatriate
Please help me out -- what's the tiebreaker in R1-6A if Science Hill wins Friday and they, Dobyns-Bennett, and Farragut all finish 5-1 in the region?

Utvols21141
It goes to best overall record. Basically if SH wins against Bearden and DB wins against Alcoa. It is 1.DB 2.SH 3.Farragut SH wins and DB falls to Alcoa 1. SH 2.DB 3.Farrgut SH loses to bearden 1. DB 2. FARRAGUT 3.Bearden 4. SH I think I have that right. There is other scenarios that could play out if Jeff Co was to beat Farragut but basically it goes to overall record and then goes to head to head. Overall wins only comes in to play with a 3-way (or more) tie that can't be broken by head-to-head record.

I truly hope they change this horrible tiebreaker rule of using non-region games to break ties. Teams play a wide range of non-region schedules and it’s about as unfair as it gets. Use region games only to break ties!! If three or more are tied, use point differential or points allowed in games with the tied teams. You can even use just the first half point differential or points allowed, if they are worried about running the score up late in games. Typically, with tied teams in regions though, those games are tight and extremely competitive.

Definitely encourages teams to pad their non-region schedule with doormats.

As with a lot of issues and rules, the TSSAA just typically stays status quo and has little to no vision on things like this. Way behind the 8-ball on something so simple to adjust!

Boone always schedules non-region games against Elizabethton, Greeneville, Dobyns-Bennett, Science Hill, etc. because that supposedly helps us get better for the playoffs. All of these are known losses before the season begins, they are basically glorified scrimmages, throwaway games. And what happens is that in a tiebreaker situation we are always going to have more losses than Crockett or Tenn High because they schedule mostly winnable games for non-region. (now before anyone points out the Greeneville game this year, yeah sure every now and then a blind squirrel finds an acorn, but if you look historically Boone always loses 99% of those aforementioned non-region games). It really helped Boone to win the Musket Bowl didn't it lol
