Tyner has not changed in years. It has been a Magnet school for a long time which makes it maybe the best job around. Because if the students are a problem they will be dismissed from the school. Also a really good situation because they Co-Op with CSAS so those students can come to Tyner and play. Usually 12-15 a year on the roster are from CSAS. Hamilton pays really good money. Assistants coaching supplements in Hamilton County are 15% which is really good. also really good hire in getting Coach Ward from Brainerd.

Good hire.. any idea on assistant coaches? How’s the talent at Tyner compared to years past? Do you see a learning period for new style?

 Also hearing a couple of coaches in the valley throwing their name in the pot for jobs. One in Bledsoe and one in Whitwell.

15% isn’t near enough for great assistants at some of these great programs.  Is that 15% the max across the board in Hamilton Co?  Is it ever any less?  I don’t know so it’s a valid question.  I’m just curious because I can’t see an assistant say, at Lookout Valley, getting paid 15% or the same as an assistant at say, Tyner or Red Bank.  Surely this isn’t happening.  We need more great assistants.  If they are a paid teacher, then pay them more than 15%.  JMO

You obviously are more familiar with Tyner than I, so, up to a point, I stand corrected. However, I couldn’t refer to any public job in Hamilton Co. as “maybe the best job around.” Their track records and high turnover speaks for itself. Even when Red Bank was in their heyday in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s, they only had such a high regular season winning percentage because they beat up on other weak Hamilton Co. programs. When the playoffs started, they were one or two and done. I’ll never forget Stan Crawley starting an article on the Friday morning of the 2nd round of the playoffs by saying “Red Bank had practice Thursday afternoon. History says it was their last.” It was.

Tyner has made 3 State championship appearances under Wayne Turner. Winning one title. Pretty good job! This since 1997. Besides South Pitt which team in the are has played for more than 3 State Championships in that time period? Listening

It was a very good job by Coach T.  Since 1997 here are the other local teams that have made it to the finals and the number of appearances.
