Does Spencer Riley keep his job at Jefferson County, after going 0-10 this season ?

Your screen name would suggest being at least somewhat close to the program.    What has happened to JC?     Do they simply not have the athletes?     Is it all bad coaching?       Facilities inadequate?        No community support?

JC needs a HC who’s gonna actually invest time in his team instead of other endeavors. I’ve heard stories of some things going on up there. It’s all quite astonishing really. They definitely don’t have the players like they used to, but no reason they can’t be a playoff contender every year with the right HC and staff.

I was a faithful follower of Jefferson County football for many years, but when they( AD and Principle at that time) decided to hire Spence Riley as their head coach I knew it was mistake. I appreciate what Spencer did for JCHS as player. I believe he was a Parade All-American in class of 1995. He represented JCHS well at UT and was on the 1998 National Championship team. Spencer does not have temperment (sp) to be head coach, JMO ! While the head coach JCHS has not earned their way into the playoffs but  once back in 2016 and that year everyone did in 6A football went to playoffs. My opinion is that the administration at that time was more interested in giving Spencer a coaching position that hiring someone who may have turned the football program around. All I have said is my opinion and nothing more. Maybe someone can tell everyone a more detailed statement than I can. Take it for what it is.

Jefferson County don't have the same type kids it had back in it's winning days over thirty years ago. It's a basket full of rotten apples just to be straight and forward with everyone on here. That's what you get when you put a bunch of schools together and bus them in from all over a county. I have direct family that live there I don't claim anymore and they sure didn't learn their rotten ways at home but from the friends they go to school with. The private schools will fish out all the survivors out of that mess and the rest will tank like the Titanic. Another hopeless case like Union County, Heritage and William Blount, they couldn't divide up and win against their own self.

My wife is a Jefferson County graduate.  I went to several 80s Reunions Jefferson County had. Talking to the people who still live in Jefferson County  they say their school administrators are terrible.  I  find it hard to believe there are no athletes at Jefferson County.  When we go to Jefferson County to visit she always buys a Standard Banner newspaper.  Their track team always does well. When my wife and brother n law went to Jefferson County they kicked butt. My brother n laws senior year was the year they won state.  They both know the Collins Boys really well.

Barney,

Are you aware that Maryville has more kids than WB and Heritage now? And your school zone keeps growing too. Your tired narratives are making less and less sense with each passing year.

Did it ever occur to you that Maryville High is within 3 to 4 miles away from the farthest distance any kid travels to school there and the county has some kids driving for half an hour to get to school. Next time your out Six Mile Road why don't you see how long it takes driving to William Blount from there and you may understand why some kids see that as a big obstacle from going out for football versus going straight down the road and playing for Lanier like they did in the good old days of Blount County you'll never understand. There were more boys on Lanier and Friendsville back then when the county was only 85,000 population then William Blount has now on a team 40 years later and that's not even counting the kids that were in the Everett zone that lives on the south side of town. What do they teach you over at UT my friend, it certainly isn't common sense.

1. Maryville's zone is bigger than you make it out to be. There are kids zoned for Maryville that are closer to WB and Heritage. At one point I lived 5 minutes from Heritage and my address was zoned for Maryville.

2. Most of WB's kids are within a 10 or so minute drive from the school. Heritage has a much bigger geography issue that is impossible to dispute.

3.  Maryville has more kids than WB and Heritage.

I'm sure neither Blount County or Maryville saw an explosion to the population 45 years later from a factory that would come into town having to draw outsiders to come in for a job because the original people that live here can't pass a pee in a cup test.  20 years ago I built 12 houses in a subdivision that are walking distance to William Blount High School and I remember saying back then if this continues the city lines could end up at the doorsteps of that school and people just laughed thinking i was crazy, guess who's laughing now. William Blount has outlived its useful life and no need to keep pouring good dollars chasing bad one's passing the buck on down the line to another group of leadership that makes the problem even worse for them. The Counties long term growth plan is simple, live to see another day.

    • Yea I agree I will say tho I was a big “ v “ fan if an  opening ever did happen I think it would’ve been good to see him have a shot coming from a power house like Oakland. I’m sure he’s learned a lot from Kevin.  I bet he would bring a really good offense scheme IMO But after all this I just dunno anymore.  Whatever happens with the rumors an such if it did come to and opening I think this messes it all up.  The board members dreams are slowly slipping away now. I haven’t lived there for awhile I just hear what I hear, but my question is would there be any good potential candidates?? That’s why I don’t understand why people want b s out so bad who else could do any better ?? IMO there’s nothing attractive about it? As I stated earlier I went to the last game last year and taking a leak in a porta Potty is pretty sad and still nothing being done they say ..
    • I have a sophomore that can do 177 (preferred) or 192. Sent you an email.
    • speaking of board members how can a man get arrested 12 days ago and still be head coaching a team in TC school system? looks like your right about the tc board members. I bet it would be different if they had a kid on the team
