TN Youth update-Boomranch and Higher Calling Blew up Tulsa today!

The end all be all for youth and Middle school wrestling is Tulsa Nationals.

TN has only had a handful of kids ever place at Tulsa especially boys 15U and 12U.  The only kid ever to make the finals before today at Tulsa 15U was Boomranch’s Cody Chittum when he finished 2nd at 15U.

Today, Cooper Hilton of BoomRanch won 15U Tulsa.  Simply incredible achievement.

In 12u, Hudson Chittum and Jojo Uhrochuck both both of Boomranch made the finals and ended up coming up short before winning True 2nd.

In girls division 15U, Piper Fowler of Higher Calling won 142p weight class.

Bosken also had another champ with Higher Callings Trey Bell won his division in 6U and in 8u Bosken had Jett Maughon who placed 5th.

This is by far the best TN performance ever at Tulsa Nationals.  Oh and Boomranch also had another Champ with Nj Jayden Gomez won 15U Boys too.  Jayden trains at Boomranch during the summers and breaks and might be moving to Bradley County soon.

TN future if wrestling is bright, very bright.

Kaleb Baker also placed 2nd at Tulsa as well as an 8th grader, so likely 15U (I would have to go back and look).  You could say he didn't make the finals since he lost in quarters or semi's (I can't remember which) to eventual champ and wrestled back to true 2nd.

Always good to celebrate success, but hate to misrepresent the past with statements too broad.

Was good to see the success of the BoomRanch / Higher Calling guys this weekend.  Tulsa is a very tough event and certainly worth celebrating any level of success there.

Interesting weekend for national tournaments with several very good teams / kids ending up in Gattlinburg for the NUWAY events.  Hate to see those types of scheduling conflicts.  For example, I know some very tough PA kids ended up in Gattlinburg.

Eli King came in 2nd three times at Tulsa and won it once by beating Andrew Merola in the finals at 89 lbs . I think Eli may have been the first Tn champion.

Mason Reinche also won it once.

At Tulsa Nationals Eli King finished 3rd twice and got 2nd once.  2010  got 3rd in 10U 73P, In 2009,  got 3rd at 10U 64p and 2008 Finished 2nd at 8U 58p.  (This is wrong, see follow up below- Eli in 2012 also won 1st 12U 88p Eli King but he is listed as Dublin, Oh as his hometown)

Mason was the only TN Champion until this year as he won 12U 100P in 2013.  This year we had 3. (Again, wrong see following threads, Eli won 12U it in 2012 and was TN first Tulsa champ)

In 15U, TN has had virtually no success at all over the years as there have only been 5 TN placers until this year.   15U Tulsa is by far the the toughest middle school tourney in the country and this year the brackets were just LOADED. Everybody in the country was in Tulsa this year... Yes, Kaleb Baker did come back to get true 2nd but Cody Chittum was the only TN kid to make the finals in 15U until Cooper Hilton won it this year.

After looking at the past champions, Eli King won it at 88 lbs. in 2012 by beating Merola from NJ. He got to the finals 3x losing to Gfeller and once to Jaden Maddox . He was listed from Ohio because he wrestled with Miron Karchelava’s team. I believe King never lived in Ohio as he is from Nashville.

Ok, I see now. Since he is listed as Dublin, Ohio as his hometown that year, he didn’t show up when I sorted the list off the Tulsa website by TN.  Odd that Dublin, OH is listed as his hometown that year instead of Nashville.  The year before he listed Miron’s and it still showed Nashville as his hometown. Probably a mistake by Tulsa website based off his club.  I’ll add him back into the list. Sorry for missing him.

Just for the record Eli King  "NEVER" lived outside of Nashville, Tennessee
